I don't get it

Why do people love Toyota so much?

My mom was considering an Equinox as her next car, but today she heard on the radio that "Chevy's were being recalled." (referring to the Colbolt recall.) Anyway, now she says she doesn't know if she should get one.

So she goes on to tell me she wants a Toyota Highlander now, because my aunt has one, and she says their great. I asked "are you telling me you didn't hear about the Toyota recall?" Her response was that she knows a lot of people with Toyota's and they all say their really good cars, so it's probably all hype.

How in the hell does Toyota do this?

It's hard to base a purchase on the recalls a product has been through. They are recalled to improve an issue. I'd rather have a car recalled than drive an unsafe one, so you can't really form a purchasing decision based on a product recall.

Toyota PR > GM PR

Its always word of mouth that sells toyotas. Somebody knows somebody who knows somebody who knows somebody who had a toyota last 200,000 miles.

Then they also know someone who knows someone who knows someone who bought an american car in 1975 and the transmission broke 5 miles out of the 12000 mile warranty and the dealer wouldn't fix it

That's why you pay those handy dandy PR people, instead of pretending you don't have problems.
