Ridgewood Officer didn't like the TA
Well, I was on my way back from a client's house. Feeling good because I had just picked up a large check from him and just enjoying the weather.
I let a car pull out of a shopping center parking lot and as a result I end up missing the green light. So I'm the first car in line at the light & there's a black-and-white CV facing me at the other end of the light, also the first in his line. Whatever. Light turns green, I let off the brake and begin rolling forward, as soon as I do he flips on his lights and pulls an illegal u-turn in the middle of the intersection. I pull over and he approaches me with a smile. Tells me he pulled me over for no front plate. Crap. I explain to him that I attend the Wyckoff car shows on Wednesdays and show him the screwdriver I keep in the center console for screwing it on/off. Then gave him my documentation and an old PBA card I had in my wallet. He didn't care, just gave it back & told me he's going out to his car to write me a summons. So I have in front of me a Complaint-summons for 39:3-33, which according to the back is a $54 fine. I guess my real question is, is there a way to avoid dishing out $54? The reason I ask is because I know many of you have been down this road before, and there are also a few officers on here who could perhaps offer some help. |
Hate to tell you but you are better off paying the fine. Take how much your time is worth plus the potential effort it would take getting out of the citation and I think you just.
Sucks but that's the price for beauty :) |
NJ will get your $54. no front plate is illegal, no matter how much it sucks.
|
Yea, you really don't have any legal ground to stand on. Telling an officer that you forgot to put it back on after a recent show may help get you out of a ticket sometimes, but once the ticket is issued you really should just pay it and move on.

i know it sucks but.......... |
Ha thanks for the heads up, there was one on E. Ridgewood Ave. and he had someone pulled over as I passed by he gave me a funny look and kept staring at my car. Then I realized my plate was down. I didn't think Ridgewood was picky like that
|
Thought so. The real thing I was trying to find out was whether this was a Fix-It ticket, (like window tint sometimes is).

i don't even know where my front plate is lol

What you haven't come to terms with is that the officer pulled you over for your own and the States safety. You see by your failure to not follow the laws of the State you are a direct threat to the authority of the State.
So instead of serving and protecting the general public by arresting drug dealers and gang members and other violent criminals the police have to dedicate their time to keeping threats to the authority like yourself in line. You can either waste yours and their time by going to court to bitch about how ridiculous this law is or pay the fine like most good sheep do and walk away with a bitter taste in your mouth. But remember this next time the police say they need raises and more money. |
I think my IQ went down a few point after reading ^^^

Mike, your car passed me on 202 Friday around 5:30 and I noticed you had no plate and wondered how long it would be before you get pulled over  I know it sucks, but I say put the plate on. Cops around here will get you on anything.

I don't use my front plate anymore. I was parked out infront my girlfriends house and their neighbor had a party. Cars parked infront and behind me. The one idiot infront of me backed up into my car and broke the license plat mount off. They had to have known they hit me, but i leave the broken plate in my back seat to show a cop and tell him i was recently hit if i get pulled over.

wah wah wah...all these people crying lately over getting pulled over. its all apart of the freaking game...dont like it, turn your license in, sell your car and take the freaking bus.
we choose not to run front plates on our car at our own peril. we choose to make our cars loud at our own peril. we choose to modify our vehicles past the point of legality. the whole point is we choose this and bring this on ourselves. there is a reason most of us keep a 100 percent legal unmodified daily driver in our fleet. if i was a cop i wouldve tore up your pba card and laughed in your face then proceeded to write you a ticket for every little thing i could think of....people with pba cards are a joke. |
whats a front plate? all that the DMV gave me was a back one and an extra one incase i lose it

Wow, who the hell is signed on as you Jay? |
lol i purposely keep my front plate off. it gives them a reason to NOT give me a speeding ticket but bombard me with township tax tickets.
last time i was pulled over it was for a little bit of spirited driving. instead of a ''spirited driving ticket''.........i got hit with Failure to Inspect, Loud Muffler, No Front Plate and a warning about tire tread depth  cost me about 300 bucks to settle up, but its a lot better than a couple points on top of the cash fine  you cry over a front plate ticket....i hope for one  |

and to answer the main question in the topic.. yea, ur better off just paying the fine. toherwise you would have to go to court to fight it, speak with the prosecutor, and possibly (not a gaurentee) get it reduced to JUST court cost. judge's typically (not always) dont let people walk away for 0$, there is usually a small court cost. i'd say pay the ticket and be done with it. .. prior to my current job i got a WHOLE bunch of "no front plate" tickets 39:3-33 and i fought one of them. this one i fought because i was given 2 tickets. one for no front plate, and another for obstructed view because i had the plate in the window (WHICH STILL IS ILLEGAL FYI) and the judge KEPT the no front plate ticket and let me go on the obstructed view one. still had to pay the $54 plus court cost. from time to time i ride around with no front plate.. but i run the risk of getting pulled over.
