**Official everything world cup thread**

Thats right the greatest tournament in the world is less than 2 days away!

USA Game Schedule
June 12th USA Vs England 2:30PM
June 18th USA Vs Slovenia 10AM
June 23rd USA Vs Algeria 10AM

My USA take-
This team has some great (but raw) young talent at striker, a solid midfield, a top class GK, the only downside to this team is the defense. They need to sort it out in the back, last world cup the achilles heel was the defense and it could very well be the same this time around. However, they have been able to train with a healthy Onyewu and possibly they sorted out the issues in training. I honestly believe if the team can come together mentally, they will be in the final 4.

My take on Italia-
Call them old, predict they wont make it out of groups, scold Lippi, tell them they have no chance with the Pirlo injury. Go ahead and do it, and they will prove you wrong again. This team is always doubted, they come out of the box slow, but peak at the best time. They drew a very easy group, easily won even without Pirlo who will be out the first 2 games. They have dynamic strikers in Gilardino and Di Natale, the best GK in the world, a top class d, and a solid mid. After groups they will have to most likely face Spain, Brazil, or Portugal in the next 2 rounds. It wont be easy, but its the world cup, Italy has been here before. Look for Italy to make it back to the final 4

Look for an upset in group A with France NOT advancing, Holland will make the final 4

Im more focused on North Korea coming out. I want to see how badly they get beat, and what they blame the loses on. They have used excuses such as their food was tainted and such.

Tsar 06-10-2010 03:20 PM

Well, I'm unemployed so I will be watching a lot of World cup

BurninrubberGT 06-11-2010 08:59 AM

RSA Vs Mexico on espn now

Untamed 06-11-2010 09:25 AM

Yet another benefit of working from home - having the world cup on in the background. On a Friday. When no one is returning my calls and email is slow.

Yeah... not much work getting done atm. RSA 0, Mex 0 so far....

Tsar 06-11-2010 10:46 AM

Mexico should be up by 1, that "offside" call was BS.

he was the last defender, the mexico player was behind the second to last defender when the ball was played IE he was offsides

Tsar 06-11-2010 11:04 AM

Since when is that the rule? When they play the line on D, it's never the second defender - it's always good if the dude was behind the "line" during the initiation of the pass.

http://www.offside-ref.co.uk/laws/11...rule/detailed/

offsides has been the same since soccer started...

Ahh, the 4th diagram proves me wrong. I don't consider a goaltender as a defense man (I know he is, but he is a damn goaltender, so he is separate in my mind), that's where my confusion was coming from, I think. Otherwise yea, I think I just got schooled.

Don't worry the announcers said it was onsides too before they were corrected at halftime

Today is the big day, USA opens up against England at 2pm today on abc. Whether your a soccer fan or not, you should be watching. We beat the brits in the 1770s, we beat them in the 50s in the miracle on grass, and now in 2010

Jersey Mike 06-12-2010 01:44 PM

Not to be pessimistic or anything, but we're down 1-0 right now. It's normally not good when the other team scores in the 3rd minute

Tsar 06-12-2010 02:20 PM

I lol'd..

Jersey Mike 06-12-2010 03:33 PM

Yeah, that was a fluke goal  so much so that I almost don't want to take it

Tsar 06-12-2010 07:08 PM

This goal will on in highlight reel for many years to come! Especially in England!

madness410 06-13-2010 01:23 AM
