Got stranded on the way home

:( Yeah it pretty much sucked. I was in the truck on the way home from work when the truck started to lose power/stumble at any throttle. I was a little above the E mark like 1 hash mark. I never had any problems doing that before....I guess I know why not to do that. From now on no more running it to E UGH. 99% sure it's the fuel pump. Pump doesn't prime now. Tried the shrader valve on the fuel rail and barely got any air out and no fuel. Not sure if it's the stock pump, but the truck does have 178k miles. Gotta swap that out asap. Thank god Josh lives close. He hooked me up with a free AAA tow. THANK GOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thank you so much Josh. Man I owe you BIG TIME.

That's why I never run my tank below 1/4, yet people think I'm crazy. I might replace the fuel and water pumps soon just for peace of mind since they have 110k miles on em and I don't feel like breaking down ever.

Yeah i never go below 1/4. people think i'm weird. i just hate how soon as it hits 1/4 within 5 min after that it's below E. it drops instantly after 1/4 so i never let it get to that lol

greenformula92 06-10-2010 10:43 PM

on the firebird i only let it get to 1/4 because i know at that point i only have like1.5-2 gallons left. on the dodge i can let it go to almost empty and still have a couple gallons left

no problem man, im just glad that you got home in time to take care of your stuff. i know that you would do the same for me. call/txt me when you're doing the fuel pump

BigAls87Z28 06-11-2010 12:21 AM

Priced a fuel pump at auto zone/advance and it ranged from $250 to $350 so that's gonna blow. I'll let ya know man.

lol yeah it's only 6 gallons so it's not that bad.

That sucks. You should never run your tank on E because all the crap that builds up in the tank sits on the bottom. But even I get lazy and run it to E but maybe not anymore. If you need a hand let me know I can help

V 06-14-2010 06:25 PM

when i drained my tank, i had no buildup of anything in it. but thats just me

WayFast84 06-18-2010 11:29 AM

That sucks about the pump. I used to be like that but I never like to go under a half a tank now a days. I had a bad experience a couple weeks ago where I had to get to my Grandparents at about 3 AM with no debit or credit card(just had the emergency money I keep in my car) and I needed gas but no stations accepted cash after 10PM.. Luckily my Gramps is old school and had about 5 gallons of gas in his shed and I dumped some in my tank to make it home.
