Red Stripe, Its...Not Beer

I peeled off my short hockey stripes to make a long, pin stripe design. This was my first test fit with a blank long style just to get the curves lined up. I figured I would use red since no one ever does it, and for good reason. Happy Hatin'...

This is another reason why you should NOT buy pre-painted bumpers from ebay. When removing my stripes, the decal peeled the paint off the bumper right down to the primer. It just goes to show how cheap of a job is done with primer, paint, and clear coat.

I love the red. Looking forward to seeing the finished product.

KirkEvil 06-22-2010 02:40 PM

Haha, well the red is just for test fitting since I have a lot of it. It will be back to gloss black once Im happy with the design and fit.

For anyone who hasnt seen my car before, these are pictures of the short stripes I took off.

See, I'm not a fan of the solid slab of black. Needs some more detail IMO.

That sucks about the bumper. Did the paint on the other side of the car peel off too?

sweetbmxrider 06-22-2010 03:00 PM

thats red alright.....:|

KirkEvil 06-22-2010 03:11 PM

Its pewter, it was really bright out when I took the pics. The other side came off without a problem, I guess they decided to clear coat that side and not the other

BonzoHansen 06-22-2010 03:29 PM

Hooray Stripes!

I'm not sure I like the red on the pewter, but I don't not like it and it's different. So cool.

Do you buy these or does someone know know make them? I ask because I think it would look better if the stripe followed the countour of the wheel well. I think the red brings that unevenness out more.

IIRC, he cuts them himself.

Are you gonna have the bumper repainted, or just make the next set of stripes 1/2" wider in the front to cover it? ;)

I have a vinyl cutter, and do all the artwork and cutting myself. I wanted to clean up the curve where the stripe follows the wheel well but I have to go with the same shape to hide the paint that peeled off. Yes, its half-ass, but I dont want to get the bumper repainted right now.

Red on pewter's been done before.. by a member here :D

LTb1ow 06-22-2010 04:15 PM

I dunno... sorta like it, sorta don't.

Sucks bout the paint though...

enRo 06-22-2010 05:15 PM

Very different... I dig it.

For ****s and giggles, maybe black pin stripes around it? I've contemplated doing the exact opposite with my sunoco hood stripes, though black with red pin striping.

transmaro93 06-22-2010 05:17 PM

i kinda dig the red kirk... i think it goes pretty good on the pewter...

The pics are very close to what it looks like in person. I think red on pewter is obnoxious.

I was originally planning to do custom checkered rally stripes, which would look great in black with red accents. Right now I think Im just going back to a hockey stripe to hide the peeling paint. Its the cheap route but if I do get the bumper repainted, I want it to be an an OEM one...And I want a new hood before I paint anything. Dominoes...

If you are talking about the berger decal I make, sure. But I think painting the rear panel looks better.
