im pulling my lt1
....any tips? i already starting taking it apart, i hear dropping the subframe is easyest?
so far the only question i have is, on the drivers side wiring harness i see it splits by the back of the head and goes strait down, any idea where it goes too? |
If you have a lift, yes, drop it out the bottom. Just remember to disconnect your ABS block so it doesn't drop down and snap all your brake lines.....
Oil pressure sender, 02, etc... just unplug everything. Its really simple. |
nah its getting done on jackstands, i was planning on lifting the front of the car with a cherry picker, should i just take off the front brake lines?

Hmn, might be not so fun that way...
Get a spare set of old rims, lift the rear wheels and then set em down into the old rims, should get you some extra room to yank the front up. you have a good impact gun? The chassis to K bolts may be a pain with just a breaker bar. And yes, just take off the brake lines from teh ABS. Most of this is common sense, if it looks like it will snag, remove it or move it. Lower the K slowly and watch for things hanging up. Then make sure you have a good set of stands to leave the body on, and a good dolly to move the engine/K on. |
yeah the rear tires are on some ramps, it really doesnt look to hard.

Don't forget the power steering resovior, hot/ground lines to started/block, knock sensor, whatever lines the T56 has etc etc...

You want good jack stands cause they are going to be extended pretty tall and I would nto want to be under a car supporter by puny jack stands fully extended....

i left the ac system in the car, just remeber battery cable to starter, and the harness going down also goes back to the trans. I dropped mine with the complete engine harness still plugged into the motor, just disconnected it at the pcm

Yes pull the motor from the bottom one note the difference from how i did it was i took of old rims and put the back tires on it (This is so you don't have to hoist the font so high like I see from the other pictures...)
Also use a engine hoist with a strap instead of a chain (this way you can wrap it around the front rad support without scratching anything also with the strap attached to the hoist you can move the body back and forth to ease installation after you are all done |

worked on it a little more this weekend, i took the shifter assembly off the trans with all the wires that go along with it, i finished getting the wiring harness out , and i took out the AC condenser but i still need to take off the hard lines that go to the rear of the AC pump to take it out, haynes says its only one bolt holding them in? I didnt really touch the brake lines yet cause i ran out of time to work on it.
This week i'll go out and get a cherry picker and i'll probably get some people to come over next weekend to help finish the job |
yeah its only 1 bolt on the flange holding the hard lines in. to get it off on greenphoenix's car we had to put a stubby on it from the bottom, have him hold the ratchet while i looped a box wrench around the handle of the stubby and pulled up from the top. it was quite tight :nod:
