short shifters

i know i dont have a v8 i past kindergraten and can count my cylinders. and before you say search i did and nothing for 5 spds come up

i just wanted to get a shorter throw out of 5 speed. i came across 1 that im pretty sure will work i just wanted to see if you guys think its a good buy and is there anything better for my money, my price range is around 200 bucks

http://www.jegs.com/i/Hurst/530/391-5032/[Ljava.lang.String;%405f2196b7/-1?parentProductId=745815

thats the one im thinking abt but notice on that it says only 93-01 5 spd camaro, you think thats a typeo? then i found the pretty much same thing on ebay? you think the ebay one is a good buy?

I believe it is a typo since here it is listed as 82-02. Hope that helps.

deadtrend1 07-29-2010 09:26 AM

the first link says:
"1983-92 Camaro/Firebird 5-Speed, V6 & V8. And 1993-01 Camaro/Firebird 5-Speed V6"

and the second one says:
"Hurst Short Shifter 83-02 Camaro Firebird T5 5 speed"

where is the confusion?

The ebay is cheaper, so go with that.

is it worth it? or is there something out there thats a better product, or will last longer? what do you guys recomend, or is that my best bet?

Green_Phoenix_LT1 07-29-2010 08:13 PM

Even though its on eBay it's still a hurst shifter. You don't get a rep like they do without having a long history of quality products. Just my two cents about it.

redsoxsstink 07-29-2010 10:25 PM

is there something better besides a hurst?

deadtrend1 07-29-2010 10:31 PM

Pro 5.0

Anti_Rice_Guy 07-29-2010 10:32 PM

It's all personal preference....not "better"

doesnt say it will fit 92-02 5speeds. idk if there is any difference bettween 83-92 5spds but it isnt worth 200 bucks to find out. why is it better than the hurst anyways?

well what is the difference. im new to aftermarket stuff, im trying to do my homework and read around but its always better to have someone you can talk back and forth with and ask questions

Anti_Rice_Guy 07-29-2010 10:54 PM

Notchiness
Shifter height
Throw distance
Price

redsoxsstink 07-29-2010 10:57 PM

well i want a shorter stick and shorter throw than a stock one, but not ridiculous short that i have to reach into the console to shift

Well, the aftermarket shifters come with a lengthy handle. So you would need to go with a "lou's short stick" or "Umi Short stick" along with the aftermarket shifter

i liked my old B&M ripper for a t5, and i like hurst on my SS(t56), i never liked the shifters that had the adjustable stops, and for that i stayed away from any of those types.

spina74 07-30-2010 02:52 PM

get a lou's short stick and make it work, I absolutely love the way mine feels

Tru2Chevy 08-02-2010 04:44 PM

I know several people who ran the Pro 5.0 shifter on their 3.8 5 speed cars, and all were very pleased with it.
