Reassessing my opinions

Well just to start off, guess this is kind of a rant of some sort to blow off steam.

As many of you know I blew up the rear on my 98 Z28 last year... Replaced with a Moser 12 bolt rear and then found out the trans took a dump at the same time...

So rather then mess around with another used trans, I decide to get a built unit and billet converter... I should have known there was going to be problems from the start when the trans itself was delayed for unknown reasons... This was back in April.

...Fast Forward 4 weeks later...

Trans is now installed... all is good... converter only stalls to 1400 RPM when its a 4100 stall, figure, hey... needs to be broken in or something, right? Take it for a ride... BANG no movment, fluid pouring out of the bellhousing...

Take the trans out, converter is cracked in a sprial all on the snout to the base...

Packed everything up to be sent out... Builder says he'll take care of it all... UPS loses the box with the trans and converter, they find it several days later.

Now, the trans is supposidly fixed, the issue was a broken pump, but I am being told that I must pay for frieght to and from my place which I didnt agree to.

So I'm at an impass... I am sick and tired of this car... I am contemplating taking it all out of it and driving it as stock or selling it... I havent raced all year and am really getting tired of it.

Thanks for taking a look...

Chris, you dont seem like the guy thats gunna get out of the hobby any time soon. Some times you run into **** like this, and you just have to take it as it comes. Cars are a pain in the ass, but its why we keep coming back to them.

Drop the trans in, have fun, you will feel better about it tomorrow...or whatever the day is after the day you install the trans and get it running.

maroman88 08-18-2010 12:14 AM

agree... fixing the same thing over and over does get old REAL fast... esp wen u didnt even get to break it!

WayFast84 08-18-2010 01:57 AM

I know how you feel. At some point in time when your in too much time/money you have to either say enough is enough or whats another couple bucks.

LTb1ow 08-18-2010 03:07 AM

I would be yelling and screaming at PB until they agree to your terms....

Shoulda gone TH400....lol

sweetbmxrider 08-18-2010 07:15 AM

Thats the thing... If I eat this $300, then I need to sell my rear... and buy a new one I'll be out at least another $500 there... not to menton doing a fuel system... and the car is still only a cam only 98... the worst year for everything...

Thats why Im planning on getting rid of the car and possibly starting over...

Not to add insult to injury, but it's convertible as well, wrost body to do any modding to anyways. enjoy the ride and get something to take to the track that's more purpose built for it, or sell it and get smoethign else.

WayFast84 08-18-2010 10:17 AM

Judging by how your saying its "only a cam only 98" I would think its already made up in your mind that the car is not special to you. Good luck with everything.

The 98 in question is the white car that used to be in his sig. Not the vert.

You can be just as attached and have as many hours into a stock or barely modified car as you can a heavily modded car and have the same sentimental value.

I have the vert too... Ha.

Well I normally run Real Street at Etown or he GM EFI events, but havent been able to do all that... or even shakedown the car with the new trans/rear

jts98z28 08-18-2010 12:31 PM

i would love to have that car, you wanna trade for my piece of **** in my driveway thats stays on jackstands?

xrelapse13 08-18-2010 02:44 PM

i say get that trans in man. You'll enjoy it all the more after its finally driveable. I know how you feel. I had to pull my trans 3 times in the span of a week and a half. first time the motor plate on the qtp bellhousing didnt wanna clear the flywheel. second time the clutch speed bleeder line was loose. third time i thought everything was good. bled the clutch, and had pressure, then started car up and it all leaked out. Turned out there was a hairline crack in the line fitting. Trans came out again. After all was said and done though it was awesome to have it on the road finally and was worth it.

You got alot into that car. Don't just abandon it cause of **** like this.

Blacdout96 08-18-2010 02:45 PM

if you race for prize money, stick with it if it may be what you need to win more, overtime it'll pay for itself, if not......... huzzah, new parts?

qwikz28 08-18-2010 03:45 PM

I went through something similar a few years prior. Engine, trans, clutch, rear. All needed replacement or rebuilding in a year span. But for what its worth, I have gone the past two years since then trouble free

WildBillyT 08-19-2010 09:50 AM

IMO:

I would not eat the cost. Sounds like a faulty product, and if a company is going to "make good" on their product they should do so 100%. Were you within your warranty period?

Blackbirdws6 08-19-2010 02:51 PM

How did you pay for the trans? How long ago? If within some sort of warranty period then contact the cc company (if you paid that way) and tell them you want the charges removed from the card. Just a thought if they don't want to play ball.

Worst case scenario, cough up the bs $300 and get the car back together, you will lose a lot of $$ parting it out back to stock.

This ^^^

NJ Torque 08-27-2010 07:17 PM

UPDATE; I got the trans back... The company did not waive the shipping fee but rather the company that I ordered it from paid for it as good will.

NOW, there are damaged splines on the output shaft.... no one is answering the phone. There is no trans in the car currently and It needs to be out of work by 7 AM tomorrow morning...

12secondv6 08-27-2010 08:18 PM

Ugh, sorry to hear this.

I blew an engine, tranny and rear all in one year - I was soooo pissed.... but it is the nature of the game.

I'd try and get it all back together and enjoy it.... the first long drive will make up for all the headaches
