How far did you go for your F body?
I've been in the market for a new car for a while and looking at every option possible. SUV's, trucks, even sedans. The only Vehicles that I have wanted on a consistent basis was a Trailblazer SS(no manual is a big heart breaker) and the fourth gen F body. It seems like everyday for 3 months now I have checked local craigslist, autotrader and cars.com up to about 300 miles and there is nothing for sale at dealerships!
I don't really want to buy a car with out seeing it in person and I need a dealership so I can trade my Cobalt in. Is there a better season to buy these cars and how far did you have too go for your car? |
mine was 2.75 miles from my house according to mapquest lol but i got mine from a private seller.
|
my latest purchase was less then a mile, previous car purchased came from long island but i had the guy deliver it, never saw it, bought on ebay
|
about 160 miles from my house well worth the trip
|
why not sell the cobalt outright so you could add private sellers to your options?
|
Our Camaro was ~125 miles away but we weren't looking for it. Just happened to stumble upon it when on vacation.
|
My Z was 98.9 miles away on the MD/DE border, according to the AAA driver that towed it to my house. :)

I got my both my 68 Firebird & 02 WS6 from Connecticut
I pretty much left myself open to states that I considered within considerable driving range. JW :D |
What's wrong with the Cobalt?
You're under 25 still, right? Insurance on the Cobolt will be cheaper, the gas milage is better, and it's not a cop magnet. You wont get into trouble having knuckleheads throw revs at you to race, and it's not listed as a sports car for trade-in value (a negative) when you're ready to get a sensible car a few years down the road. I just finished paying off my Toyota Camry. I haven't liked the car since I drove it off the lot, and yet the damn thing runs like a champ and won't die. I looked around and decided to hang onto the car, enjoy having no payments for a while, then look into getting my next Trans Am as a 3rd vehicle in a year or two - still without payments, but maybe a driving project I'll have to fix. Many people do this, though it takes a few years to get financially independant (and responsible) to get what you want. Lastly, as strange as this sounds, enjoy "wanting" the car of your dreams. Spend time researching, looking at pics, collecting models of it, etc. Oftentimes the road towards ownership in a few years, makes it that much sweeter when you finally get it. You're still young - you have many other things you should be working towards before satisfying the need for a sports car. Most of all, in this economy, saving some money "just in case". If your mom is strapped for cash someday, you'll wish you had the cash in the bank instead of a gas guzzling sports car in the driveway. Thus endeth the lesson... again. |
flew down to florida to buy a corvette, if we didnt like it when we got there we woujld have just flown back. We told the guy to tell us every little detail before we left to come see it so we can decide if it would stop us from coming or not. We picked it up the next morning after looking at it and drove it home.
so NY to FL i think it was 1300 miles maybe more |
TA - bout 15 miles
Jeep - was my cousins, so it just kind of showed up at my house Riv - bout an hour drive |
9 miles. not a bad thing if it's under warranty from a dealership if something goes wrong with it
|
Only had to go about 10 miles for mine, last one i looked at though was in NC so....yea lol. It all really comes down to how much do u want it.
