Fan assembly for 1969 Camaro

The last owner of my car installed a fan that is not right for the car. I am replacing it but don't know if I need just the spacer and the fan or if I need the fan clutch also. I have seen both but I have a\c and don't know if that makes a difference.

Any help would be appreciated

You want the fan as close to the radiator as practical for good airflow.

Spacer benefits are cheap price and less mass.
Space downside is that it's spinning the fan full-time, sucking up a few HP.

Clutch benefits are variable operation, the silicon fluid only engages it to spin when it's hot.
Clutch downsides are cost and mass.

I'd switch to an electric fan.

what do you have now, a goofy flex fan? go OE clutch fan. Do you have the shroud? electric is a good option but doesn't look too original.

I have some aftermarket fan and no shroud now and since I bought the shroud I thought it best to change the fan out to more of a stock fan while I have it off. Even though I don't have ton of money I am trying to get it back to as much of a stock look as possible

I think I have a decent GM clutch fan here. Let me look tomorrow.

Stock clutch fan setup does not use a spacer. It should be a 5 to 7 blade fan, you can find them pretty cheap on Ebay if you don't need a dated one. The stock low horsepower fan is a 4 blade fan with the spacer I believe. Go with the clutch fan setup. It's an 18" fan but you definitely need to run the correct fan shroud to expect the setup to work properly.

Thanks to everyone for the information it has been a great help. I think I will go with the clutch fan.

Thanks Again

Robert

I have the one off my 77 you can have cheap. I can get measurements/pics later in the week.
