How the hell will I transport this!?

This question is geared more towards those of you have purchased a hood for your cars.

There is a 4th gen Fboday hood in central NJ that I want to buy. Price is right so I can finally get one, but I have not the slightest idea how I'm going to actually GET IT (pick it up). Obviously, it's not going to fit in the 'bird, and I don't know anyone with a pick-up anymore; only SUVs.

So, how the hell can I get this thing from Middletown to Oakland?!?
What would you guys do in this situation; what do you think is my best option right now?

so close, yet so far away

You know nooobboooodyyyy with a pick up truck to borrow for a few hours?? I would like to bet there's somebody that you could throw a tank of gas to one day to give you a hand

remove the hood from your car. drive there get the hood install it. then drive home.

Either sold or away at college already. (If I hadn't exhausted my cell phone contacts, I wouldn't be on here asking for other options.)

Are you 25 or older?

NastyEllEssWon 08-23-2010 01:09 AM

when i picked up a hatch in south jersey i paid a guy that advertises on craigslist ''GUY WITH TRUCK''. cost me like 50 bucks to have him haul some **** in his trailer and tossed him an extra 10 for some gas. was worth it

22 on Wednesday. As far as paperwork goes, getting someone 25+ to sign for something wouldn't be a problem--what'd you have in mind?

im thinkin he means go to the local home depot or lowes nd rent one of them racktrucks. or even a pick up at a car rental place.

BigRocsFirebird 08-23-2010 01:26 AM

yeah what is it like 19.95 or something like that for a couple hours and a few burnouts

BigAls87Z28 08-23-2010 01:50 AM

Bingo. Rent a truck for a few hours, then give it back. Problem solved.

maroman88 08-23-2010 06:45 AM

firehawk1120 08-23-2010 08:11 AM

hell i'm looking to make some extra money. I got a pickup and can give you a lift to get it. Willing to pay a few bucks for the service? Your choice on how much.

yeah tahoe is fine - fit entire front clip of a trans/am in my tahoe. Also when i got my hood for my old camaro i had my cuz and his gmc truck with me.

your best bet is prob the rental truck - wont cost much for a few hours

12secondv6 08-23-2010 08:38 AM

I've transported a harwood ram air hood in my 97 bird - it is tight but it will fit.

I don't remember if I removed the front passenger seat or not.....but it will fit

Whiplash Performance 08-23-2010 09:12 AM

You don't need to be 25 to rent a truck at Home Depot.
I've rented a truck from home depot when I was 20 without any surcharge like most car rental places charges and you don't need to buy anything from the store to rent it during the week.

Foosh 08-23-2010 10:27 AM

Mike, i'd check the measurements for putting it in the back of the ole trans am dude, if it fits, it'll save you the hassle.

Wolfblitz 08-23-2010 10:55 AM

I moved one of the stock flat hoods in my 4th gen. Was really tight on the sides, but it went in and i could still close the hatch

Jersey Mike 08-23-2010 11:00 AM

Did you remove the front seats? What was the roof clearance like? (This one has the Ram Air cowl & nostrils).
Did it scratch up against your hatch glass? Mine has tint film on it, so I'd hate to have it tear.

Wolfblitz 08-23-2010 11:22 AM

i hat to push both seats all the way forward and put it in on an angle, it did rub up against the back glass though, but u could always put a towl down and then just tie the hatch closed

I'm sure he left at least on of the front seats in. :moon:

Friend on another board strapped a hood to the roof of his s10 blazer and drove all the way from virginia with no issues. I would just be concerned of cracking corners by trying to wedge it into a tight vehicle

LOL i know this first hand!

JJRRACING 08-23-2010 03:26 PM

Go to a dealership (not mine please) Pretend to like a truck, ask to take it to your wife, pick up your hood, bring it back and say "she don't like it" and leave...
