they cleaned up great!

Thanks. Steel wool, two types of wire wheels, a drill, and VHT header paint did a pretty good job.

BigRocsFirebird 08-23-2010 11:52 AM

Why do you say that? These are getting installed with the help of an experienced friend of mine and his full shop

hmm id like to see how the VHT paint holds up. we did rustoleums header paint on 19iroc88's car, it last idk maybe 5 mins before some spots started to burn off?? lol

Did you cure the paint before you put them on? This stuff can either be cured on or off the vehicle using heat cycles. A friend of mine used the same stuff on his turbo, followed the directions and its lasted 3 years with only a few spots just started to show up.

Hmm they sat for almost 24 hrs, dry to the touch. Planned on doing the heat cycle but fired it up for like 1min open headers and the paint on the primaries started to come off. theres a good amount of paint still on, just not like is supposed to be...

Green_Phoenix_LT1 08-23-2010 04:30 PM

Ill keep an eye on it. The headers still had a good amount if the ceramic coating on them so hopefully that will help.

MonmouthCtyAntz 08-23-2010 04:34 PM

Look great w/ the VHT

LTb1ow 08-23-2010 04:44 PM

my thoughts too. jet-hot sterling 1300 .... one and done.

I had really poor experience with VHT paint... I sprayed everything and let it dry to the touch except when you put pressure on it the stuff would still rub off. So I thought eh its cause its not cured. Touched it up once it was installed. Heat cycled it as directed 3 times let it cool and checked to make sure it wouldnt rub off. Well it did...

If you want silver use cast blast if you want black use krylon BBQ paint.

Thanks for the heads up I'll keep an eye on it. The whole reason for the clean up and paint was to stop and slow down the rusting. I'm hoping to squeeze at least 18 months out of them. I'll be changing them out for stainless steel once I do heads/cam etc.

Install changed to Sunday September 5th. Pics will be taken. Should be some good fun.

I think doing a power window motor ona thirdgen cuts you up worse.

Green_Phoenix_LT1 09-03-2010 09:46 AM

A little blood loss and some pain isn't anything to cry over.

CJDZ24_Z28 09-03-2010 10:00 AM

Good Luck with that. Never did any Header installs on any of the LT1 cars I owned and I wouldn't want to. Did 3 LS1's with no problems. How long on average will this take you?

Green_Phoenix_LT1 09-03-2010 10:04 AM

Depends how much stuff breaks during

Slow-V6 09-03-2010 11:48 AM

Id say 4-6hrs

deadtrend1 09-03-2010 12:44 PM
