computer issue, no sound
i know this is a car forum but ive seen people solve technical computer issues here so maybe ill give it a shot before i start asking around more.
my computer has no sound. yes, i tried pushing the mute button, and adjusting the volume settings. it was fine the other day i turned it on the next morning and had no sound. i know i deleted some programs trying to free up some space but that was in the middle of last week, and worked perfectly fine after that. im not 100% sure if its a software or a hardware issue, but its weird it just went overnight. has anybody else had this dilemma? thank you for help in advance. |
It sounds like you may have deleted or uninstalled something the sound driver needed? Sometimes a simple reboot does wonders, have you tried that? if so, I would check device manager to see if your sound card is listed and if it has a little yellow exclamation point next to it. You could try reinstalling the driver right from within device manager, or downloading it from the manufacturer's website.

thanks for the help. yeah ive tried a reboot and ive also tried a system restore. both did not do anything.
|
sound doesnt even work when i have headphones in...it has to be a software issue
|
Did you try uninstalling the sound driver, reboot and reinstall the driver? Is it on-board sound or an actual card? Could be it's shot. You can test by installing a separate sound card and see if that works.

its a dell inspiron e1505 laptop...it has to be a driver i didnt buy any upgrades or anything for a sound card..
|
check what sound driver you have in device manager in the control panel. Google that and go to the manufacturer's website and download all new drivers.
|
Go to support.dell.com
Click Drivers & Downloads Enter your Service Tag (preferably) or model Then find your driver under the Network section |
thanks for the help guys. i downloaded new drivers and still nothing. maybe i didnt install them correctly?
|
the sound card or whatever a laptop uses, not sure if its integrated? could have simply **** the bed. Happened to my desktop twice. One day it worked, next day nothing, had to buy a new card
|
perhaps. but im not sure if that would explain why i cant open up volume settings or anything.
|
Can you open the sounds and audio devices option in control panel? If so, does it show anything under the default device for audio?
If not, check in device manager...does it show anything under the sound section? If it does, is it installed and working properly (no yellow exclamation points?) |
under sounds and audio devices in the control panel the only thing i can control is under the sounds tab and the hardware tab. everything else is faded out.
|
Yea it sounds like your computer isn't detecting the sound card, due to lack of driver or who knows what else. You can shop it or bring it down to me and I'll look at it. Or if it's connected to the internet, I can remote in and take a peek if you want. Let me know.
Otherwise, there's plenty of good sales going on. You can find a decent laptop for 200. |
