Thanks JS Performance for a great engine! 1-year mark review

Just wanted to share my experience with my 355 AI engine build that Josh buttoned together a year ago already. Due to a couple lousy experiences in the past, it took me a while to find a good shop and someone who actually cares (and charges a fair price). From a simple trans cooler install on my GTO, to a full out engine and suspension build on my LT1 car , i've been pretty happy. A few quirks appeared, but with a 15 year old car i think it was just time for some little stuff to take a dump. So far, the motor is doing great with 7000 miles on it and my hope is that it lasts for another 50k!

My original dyno numbers were 405whp and 378tq. Recently re-dynoed and it put out 411rwhp and 384tq. I guess it must have loosened up a little. Or it was from fixing the ignition break-up at 5800 RPM

Here are the full specs of everything. I had Josh take my brand new GM shortblock, gut it and do the machining & assembly as well as R&R the motor in the car. He also rebuilt the suspension with Konis, replaced the clutch, among many other things.

Internal Engine:

Brand new GM LT1 block 4-bolt mains
Advanced Induction "Dominator" 200cc heads
Advanced Induction billet core 230/236 cam @112LSA

Ohio Forged 4340 3.48" crankshaft
Compstar 6" Forged rods
Mahle Powerpak Forged -5cc pistons
Clevite Competition Series rod/main bearings
LT4 Extreme duty timing chain
ATI Superdamper

Exhaust:

Hooker Super Competition long tube headers, coated
Borla cat-back, no cats

Drivetrain:

Moser 9" Rear End , Detroit Truetrac posi, 4.11 gear ratio
PST 3.5" balanced driveshaft w/ loop
BMR torque arm relocation kit
Spec 3 clutch

Suspension:

Koni 4/4 Shocks
UMI Panhard bar
UMI Rear Control Arms
UMI Race Torque Arm

Fuel system:

Racetronix High-flow 255lph in-tank fuel pump
Racetronix 42lb/hr flowmatched fuel injectors

Cooling:

Brand new ACdelco radiator
160* SLP thermostat
Electric water pump

Tuning:

Since videos like that aren't allowed here this will be my last post here, but yep it sure is fun. If i could do it over i would stroke it. That was probably the most boneheaded move ive ever done with a car. Spent the same amount of money and left 50hp on the table..damn! I was originally going to do a 355 to save some money and use the stock rods but have them ARP'd, use the stock crank , damper etc and just use forged pistons. But I was convinced by a lot of people to go forged because how i drive the car. I had already bought the block with the rods and pistons, so I couldn't get a refund. I'd still like to throw some nitrous on it, maybe just a 100 shot? I know the rings weren't gapped for it, but do you really think it would hurt it if i only used it once in a while? I can control myself with it...

I don't DD it as I'd like to save the engine life for trips and such. When i do drive it, i usually do at least 2 or 3 burnouts lol. The cam sounds great and really does pull , it pulls hard right up to 6500 RPM. It is VERY smooth. In reality i should have went a little bigger with it. I'm going to have the limiter adjusted to 6900 and shift at 6700. I keep hitting it every now and then which drives me nuts.

Good stuff, I have a pretty similar build on my hands but its a 3.75" crank. My cam has a little less duration on the intake side but I am also a stalled auto dding. I remember seeing those vids on youtube and lovin the car haha

I'd ask Josh what he gaped the rings at and how much nitrous he thinks it can handle. He knows his stuff 8-)
