My first Brand New car!

Woot! I just purchased my first brand new car last week; a 2010 Mitsubishi Lancer GTS Sportback. She's a 5-speed MT, Rotor Glow Metallic in color. I love the choice I made with the purchase of this vehicle.

As most of you know, I was driving a 1985 Trans Am--fantastic, reliable car with only 69,000 original miles (for sale in another thread to make up for the down payment on this car). As much as I love my TA, I felt it was time for a new vehicle when my commute increased from a 6-mile round trip to a 60-mile round trip (yikes!). I'll let you know when nostalgia kicks in...

Anyway, since this thread is worthless without pics, here they are:

Pic 1, Pic 2, Pic 3, Pic 4

Let me know what you think! I don't plan on heavily modifying this car; nothing beyond a performance air filter, plugs, wires, maybe some different headlights. I certainly don't want to void my warranty! 8-)

cool! I was looking at an older MotorTrend this morning, and saw some ads for the Sportback. I really like that look, real sharp. Im a huge hatchback fan, so it works for me! congrats!

qwikz28 02-05-2011 12:01 PM

coolmanvette75 02-05-2011 01:51 PM

I love the color. It would look even better lowered though

Anti_Rice_Guy 02-05-2011 02:31 PM

Love that color, as I told you before. The car looks like an Evo wagon.

mc73nova 02-05-2011 02:54 PM

Nice car and color choice, good luck with it.

Congrats on the new car!!!

Masonite 02-05-2011 07:59 PM

Thanks all!

@Anti_Rice_Guy - It's certainly unique... I haven't seen another Sportback on the road yet, and the Rotor Glow was a limited color for 2010 only :-)

@coolmanvette75 - Thank you. I'm considering lowering just a bit... Maybe 1-1.5" at most...

@qwikz28 - I can't say I had the roof rack on for more than 24 hours... after 45mph, those things made an obnoxious whistling/howling noise. I'm sure they may have played a small factor in lower gas efficiency, too (not much, but noticeable over time).

@redsoxsstink - totally guy like whoa i so ordered a TURBO INSIDE sticker to its sposed to increase horsepowaz by like 340 minimumz! btw that chipz da low end one the chipz i ordered adz 1000 HP and gas by 20mpg dude! also i can do a wheelstand with a FWD!

...lol

I had a similar set of rails on my Jeep for the cargo basket, and I average ~.5 mpg better without them on. Removing just the basket itself gained me closer to 1 mpg.

agreed. I have a Yakima bar and bike rack system for my Vue, and during the winter, I take it off. I always thought that racks look cool, but they do hurt fuel economy, so might as well take them off when not in use

91chevywt 02-05-2011 10:48 PM

They are pretty cool...my g/f was looking at getting a lancer, but in the end just decided to stick with her sentra. Another thing about the roof rack, they get in the way of removing snow. It's easier just to push it all off in 2 swipes of a broom than to work around the roof rack. It should make for a nice driver, I would get annoyed having a manual for a DD, but that's just me.

maroman88 02-06-2011 07:53 AM

i gotta safari rack thing for the blazer... looks cool but it got bad gas milage before and after lol

Fleetwiz 02-07-2011 12:20 PM

Congrats...enjoy it...

ws6 jim 02-07-2011 08:53 PM

Yes congrats on the new car smell

T69SS 02-07-2011 10:03 PM

Congrats, i like the color

edpontiac91 02-08-2011 12:48 PM

Good Luck with it. The Sportback will come in REAL handy with the cargo space. Always was a huge fan of the 2002 Trans Am SOM color, so yours really stands out nicely.

Hey Masonite:

I was looking at these cars recently. Are you still enjoying the sportback? Anything you don't like at this point?
