license plate on air dam?
on ls1tech i've seen a fair amount of 4th gens with their front license plate on the air dam. It looks better but the big question is, can you get in trouble for it?
|
Only if you promise to not make a thread whining about getting a ticket.
|
i'll save all my whining for window tints
|
In that case, I would just disregard running one.

|
Or you can save some cash and get the manual flip up one.

Waiting for Mickey to enter the thread...

i have a manual one on my iroc...i keep it hidden.
i would lean against the motorized one, only because i have scrapped a bit on some steep inclines and you would probably damage the motorized version. the manual one still works fine and is considerably cheaper. |
i had mine on my air dam for a while and i was lowered a lot.
yes it is still illegal and you can get in trouble. Quote:

I would go the manual route and if you decide to leave it down during day to day driving, you can just apologize and explain to the officer that you must of forgotten to flip it back up after the last car show / meet / photo shot / etc that you were at. Won't work every time, but that explanation should get you out of a few tickets if the story is believable.
I personally wouldn't leave it down during day to day driving....98% of the other drivers on the road won't notice it either way, and who are you trying to impress on the highway? - Justin |
I have a manual one and leave it up cause I bought it so I don't get pulled over/ticketed.

And I also said that in my opinion the plate should be left up. - Justin |

ive had the plate there since the day i got the plates. i got pulled over the first day i had the car out(the night befor the howell meet) and the cop accually said he pulled me over for no inspection but then saw i had the pink slip from the DMV, he walked to the front of the car and looked, came back and asked me were my plate was. lol. i just told him i didnt put it on rather than go threw explainin why im a d-bag for having on the airdam.
but ive driven head on w. pleanty of police with the plate like that, and i have yet to get pulled over. knock on wood. |
I'm sure those LE plates have no sway lol
|
it depends, a lot of friends and family are cops. some say LE plates make them look at the car a lot more, and they think they got sometime to hide per say, yet some say depending on the crime (tints,HIDs,ect) they'll just look the other way and not make the stop
|
I wouldn't trust the motorized ones. a buddy of mine in my car club had one on his 300c, and it got ripped off twice. he wasn't lowered

I can see the plate fine...looks good to me. LOL. Is the bottom edge of the plate torn up from being so low? |
i'm pretty sure a vette has its less than 12 inches. also is that 12 inches at the top bottom or center of the plate. and 48inches is 4ft. our front windshield is well below that and its the "front" of the vehicle..... lots of interpretation here. but pretty much if the cops a dick it really doesnt matter. his quota is his quota
