Does anyone know where I can get my A/C unit repaired in the Central NJ area?
I took my A/C unit out of storage and turned it on for the first time today. It worked for a few minutes but then stopped blowing air and just stopped altogether. Does anyone know where I can get it repaired for a reasonable price anywhere near Middlesex, NJ?

are you speaking of a window unit? if so its cheaper to buy a new one.
|
Yes, a window unit. Is it really cheaper to buy a new one or would that depend on what is wrong with it? I mean what is the cost just to have someone take a look at it, without even fixing it? I tried researching this online and surprisingly, I am not having much luck with Google searches. Even when I try googling A/C repair places near Middlesex, NJ, I am not finding much.

to come and look you'll spend around $100. to fix it, there will be more labor costs and a mark up on parts if any. a simple fix will still run you a couple hundred. if its low on charge you could spend more than a new one will cost and still have an older ac unit when all done. also tough to find someone to service a window unit like you've found out already. check craigs list or backpage. people are always getting rid of those after they get central.

That's a bummer. Thanks for the info though.

I guess my next question is, how do I properly dispose of an AC unit? Just dump it in a communal trash bin or something?

check with your town.

Somerset county, hmm? I have a window unit I'm not using. :D
|
also you could just put it at the curb the day before trash day. guarantee a scrap metal picker will nab it. If not you'll just have to lug it back in when the trash guys refuse it.

most of the time you have to bring it to your town dump. it is most likely cheaper to buy a new one, they are not as expensive as they used to be

I live in an apartment building, so leaving it on the curb probably wouldn't be an option. There's a communal dumpster though that is fenced. I'm wondering if I leave it on the inside of the fence sitting beside the dumpster if they'll take it or not.
