any have a way to run a NJ tag to see what its registered to?

Heres the deal i have a stack of tags in my garage i just got rid of a vehicle like 2 months ago and i picked up another one that i could transfer the tags off the old one to it because they are still good and needless to say i lost the damn registration and dont know which tag went to it. I didnt know if anyone on here had a means of running them to see its only 4 tags if so hit me up on here or my cell at 609-364-4466 i can either pm you the tag numbers or text them to you thanks.

I think you will need to go to dmv and have them check the tags. You should turn in the tags that aren't current any way, but they should be able to see which tags are current and you can then transfer them if the vehicle is the same type. You can't take tags from a truck and put them on a car or the other way around.

i agree... my blazer is classified as a truck and a grand cherokee is a 'wagon'! i couldnt transfer my firefighter plates from my trans am to my blazer. but my sisters plates were able to go from a mustang to a grand cherokee

Mike, I ~think~ the DMV's reasoning behind the wagon/truck thing is that the Blazer has a full-frame, and the Cherokee is a unibody. Weird though, I thought FF plates could be transferred to anything - I'm pretty sure you can change vehicle classes if you're swapping personalized plates. The dealer was able to transfer my personalized plates off the Cherokee and put them on my G35.

they arent technicly personalized... it was just the next number plate with the FF design on it, i didnt pay extra for personalized charactors on it.

I was under the impression it has to do with the way the feds categorize a vehicle. That is why minivans are registered as ‘wagons’. IIRC that is how the whole SUV craze started, Nissan figured out 4 doors = car to the feds and it got them around import tariffs on trucks or some craziness like that.

funny that the blazer is a truck, but the trailblazer is a wagon

FF plates are only transferable intra-family IIRC

Yea, but he wanted to transfer them from HIS car to HIS truck....not sure why that's an issue with the DMV. Update the info in the computer, pay any extra registration money needed, move on.
