Unknown Wire
as some of you know my radio is messed up, so today i was free and decided to take it all out in an effort to install the new stuff. I came across this
http://i115.photobucket.com/albums/n...Picture035.jpg stereo is my downfall when it comes to cars, the speaker wire goes to the rear speaker, but why is it tapped off that harness? and what harness is that? its the only one tapped into that harness.... |
what vehicle is this?
|
my camaro. 01 Z28.
its right behind the passenger kick panel, as you may be able to tell bc thats the door hinges lol |
I think that harness goes back for rear sub and speakers, so I would guess some sort of aftermarket speaker nonsense.
|
try the auto zone web site, it has wiring diagrams
|
That flat looking wire that goes out of frame? Looks aftermarket as hell.
|
the flat wire that goes out of frame is speaker wire. that was ran to the rear. last night i took out ALL the speakers and wiring for the stereo except the ones pictured. simply because that was the only speaker tied into that harness. is that harness for the stock speakers?
|
i know some of you seen the electrical mess my car was, there was enuff speaker wire to go from my garage door to the sidewalk and back 4 times. and there was a BUNDLE of it under the dash.
opinions on just making my own harness? my dad is an electrician so no HaXorz. |
The cut wires might be the oe speaker leads. The colors look familiar.

im not doin a system in the car, i just want my stock stuff to work again |
If I were you I'd get the oe wiring diagrams and start checking. Then you can pull the other junk out
|
I would buy a new body harness versus making your own.

Or just fix it. At least check it. Most hack install jobs leave the oe wires in place, give or take a terminal
|
i have 2 complete harnesses from a 93 and 95.... same thing?

Why are you so hot on changing the whole harness? Is anything else not working out just the stereo?
|
well not the harness accually, i need all new wiring for the speakers/head unit.
the problem was the headunit had power and worked for the first few minutes drivering the car #literly and then no more sound. headunit works fine, lights up, plays the CDs, plays the ipod, just no sound. and i saw all the exess wire and hackjob of wiring so i want to redo the whole thing. |

Sounds like a head unit issue. A writing problem probably won't cause what you are describing
|
ive tried different head units to no avail. i even tried a stock one my friend had laying around.
you know how when you buy an aftermarket headunit you have to addapt it to the harness with the plug? well they had 3 plugs betweeen the headunit and the stock one. |
The stock bose system has an amp in the back and you need a special adapter harness between the headunit if you use it. You could just rewire the whole thing with regular wire to each speaker. The cut wires appear to be speaker wire to me.

i kinda feel like its gunna be the easiestto just figure were the stock speaker stuff starts, and run from there. |
If you want me to look at it and then laugh, come on down.
|
well i think im gunna have it figured out by the weekend, and if its not working by then, im fiberglassings a boombox into my dash
