C4 Corvette question
What is a 85 Corvette with 86000 miles and a auto really worth? The car runs solid but needs some paint work and alot of interior work as well. I have been in the market for a older vette and this one they want 3600.00 for.. Its well worth it if you are selling it based off of KBB but to a Corvette person I hear dont get it for more then 2000.00. I know they are not that sought after cars. The L98 is a good solid engine. Its not a Cross Fire.
I just want something I can work on and just cruise around with. Doesnt have to be fast as thats why I have my other cars. |
3600 for a vette isn't too bad. If the price can be worked on, the better. Even though it's a low mileage vette, there will still be some things to be replace just because of the age. For me, even if it didn't smoke, I'd change the valve guide seals, and all the hoses and fluids. after that, I'd cruise it. As long as you don't spout those two infamous words that seperate the dudes from the douches.....Corvette original, you'll be just fine lol.

85 is better than 84, but if you are looking for a C4, I'd look into a 88-96.
I believe 85 has iron heads, while halfway through 86 the L98 received the aluminum 083 units that help kick up the power. 88 the C4 had some major revisions to the suspension I believe? 85 isn't a bad year, but if you really want a decent C4, find an 88 and above. |
84 was the worst... 85 still had some suspension issues that were fixed by 86, mostly a rough ride. $3600 isnt a bad price, but if its asking price get them down to 3k. all c4's need interior work lol
i was in the market for years for a c4, but i got a full time job and a great deal on a c5 lol |
If you're in the market for a c4 then Id hold out for an LT1 car. Besides being better looking and having a nicer gauge cluster the nose is also significantly lighter. Plus they came with nicer wheels.
I see ALOT of c4s come through work. Mostly ZR1s, Grand Sports, Callaways and some pace cars and theyre going for under $18k with less than 1000 miles on them. I know thats a little bit of a different animal but relatively speaking 86k really isnt low miles for a c4. |

Thanks everyone for the feedback. I always loved the C4 body style. I am gonna talk to the guy on Monday. I will try to get the car in the 2500.00 range but if not I am not gonna get it. I can hold off for a little better condition L98 or a LT1 C4. I have even started to see some C5's come down under the 10,000 dollar mark.
