But, but can it be a zr1?

WayFast84 11-30-2011 07:27 AM

Ctsv for a volt. I'd swap.

Blackbirdws6 11-30-2011 08:08 AM

I'm sure the high end models will not be available due to limited supply. So I guess GM would give you a loaner until they come up with a solution to the issue?

40k car for a 40k car. Good ol ground breaking news from Jalopnik.

But, that aside, volts now catch on fire?

yes and no.
long story short... crash test damaged a battery in a test car, 3 weeks later, the battery caught fire. It also happened a second time in a crash test. A fire started a considerable amount of time AFTER a crash test which damaged the battery and coolant lines. They don't catch fire just for fun or at the moment of impact. They advise that the remaining battery charge after an accident that compromises the battery, should be drained/discharged to prevent a fire in the future. Point is, If its that bad of a crash, you shouldn't be driving it anyway and it would probably all get repaired/replaced anyway. Just one main item insurance companies should know needs to be replaced if any chance it was damaged.

ZR1s...maybe not. But i see no reason a V wouldn't be easy to get.

Good job out of GM.

I forget if it was the Insight or Prius that had an issue with the battery cabling preventing the jaws of life (a Hurst product :D) from being used. THAT was a bigger deal.

Frosty 11-30-2011 12:39 PM

The media is overreacting(as usual).

BonzoHansen 11-30-2011 08:17 PM

and they wanted a hydrogen powered car. hahahahaaaaaaaaaa

You know these new fangled devices that carry a large container of very dangerous fluid, that when in an accident can rupture causing a fire.

Update - GM cleared by the Feds... http://autos.aol.com/article/federal...investigation/

BonzoHansen 01-23-2012 07:54 PM

so 2 test volts catch fire after a major collision and it is big news. Thousands of minis are recalled for fire issues with no collision and it's no big thing. huh. some things never change.

BigAls87Z28 01-23-2012 08:57 PM

catch fire 3 weeks later after the crash. It wasn't a big deal, but people continue to look at this car as if it will destroy the American way of life.

sweetbmxrider 01-23-2012 09:03 PM

It will :|

ws6 jim 01-23-2012 09:58 PM

Do they have any EV1s in the backlogs?

BigAls87Z28 01-23-2012 11:45 PM

All but 2 of them were crushed.

1320B4U 01-24-2012 11:03 AM

I'd want a 2012 t/a, tickets to the Beatles reunion (original members), Thurman Munson's catchers mit from 1972, and the Kennedy files...you ain't going to get off that easy GM..your going to have to jump thru hoops to satisfy me....and i will sue for post tramatic stress on the grounds that everytime i see an electrical outlet i soil myself.....hahahaha

didn't want to make a new thread, but here's an awesome article proving the media typically unnecessarily blew up the volt "fire" story, bob lutz sheds some light on the situation
