Any metal strippers/ chemical dip companies in tristate area
 

Can anyone help me out. I'm looking for a place that will chemical dip my 71 Z project im starting. Seems to be plenty of places out west that'll do it but not many in the east. Car is stripped of everything already and is ready to go.

are you 100% dead set on dipping it?

back when I was looking into it the cons just outweighed the other options for me.

-cost more than media blasting or DIY(aircraft remover)
-next to impossible to recoat those inside panels afterwards.
-if its not welded on it has to come off, including the cowl tag.
-horror stories even from those that claimed to prep the metal properly before paint. (you'll read the same type of things with soda-blasting too though)
-no one in our area does it

Kwick-Strip in Allentown, Pa closed down a while back apparently and I couldn't find anything else.


I had plenty of time and no cash so I did it messy style in my garage. Looking back I should have paid any of the numerous media blasting places the $600-$1000 to blast and epoxy the car. I spent countless hours and probably $150 on stripper and sanding disks and then another $200 on epoxy. Not to mention almost 2 months under the car stripping the undercoat off! - That I will never do again.

time is the major factor, and also cant deal with grinding rust at my age anymore, also will be dipping a 1930s car and starting fresh will be a pleasure, will be digging the car out of my barn up north in next week or two, will post pics up then.

I just dropped off a hood to Dr. Stripper in Rochelle Park, NJ to have it media blasted. I will have it back next week so I'll let you know how it turns out. The guy was pretty cool that owns the place. He said the cost to do the hood would be $85.00, you'd spend have that amount in chemical to strip the paint then you have to get all the residue off so the new paint sticks plus all that mess to clean up. This is something that you need to worry about if you have someone chemically strip the parts.

If I may ask how old are you that you can't grind rust anymore? I am 53 and I do 99% of all my own work. Just wondering.......

My 69 was dipped at Redi Strip in Allentown PA. As far as I know they are still open but that was a few years ago. The body comes back like this and is already neutralized and ready to work with.

LOL 43, I have shot so much Black Beauty (tons) and other silicas in my life, along with cutting concrete, pavers and stones while hardscaping for a living, despite wearing proper equipment the dust/ sand is everywhere days later even after showers, its more of fear that my lungs will pay someday.

Yes, the original owner of the car tried to slalom down Lombard Street back in 1971 and someone left their lawn sprinkler on and it ran down the street. He got the car sideways and hit the curb and a tree or pole. Chevy dealer put on a cut down quarter. And there was actually 2 tailpanels on the car as well!

Sorry, I don't know what the actual cost was to have it stripped, the shop restoring the car had it done.

I am waiting on the same thing. I was a mechaninc back in the day when brakes were made of asbestos, every brake job you breathed in more dust. Chemicals were not regulated like they are now either, so cleaning your hands with brakleen and such was never given a second thought.
Ah those were the good ole days..........................
