4th gen rear into a first gen?

what would need to be done to fit my 12 bolt moser out of my 96 trans am into a 68 firebird? the firebird will have rear disk brakes and what not. but could it be possible? i would imagine spring perches would need to be welded on in a different place.

thanks

jim

oh okay, i think the 4th gen rear is about 4 inches wider than the third gen too

A lot. Cheaper to sell yours and buy the correct one

okay, its for a buddy of mine that wanted to buy my rear, his father is a welder so we were just wondering what needed to be done.

you could probably sell your rear, rebuild a stock rear in the bird and have beer money left over.

For starters, the width is not correct so the axle tubes and shafts are wrong. Next, he doesn't need your coil spring mounts so they have to go, and you need to add the leaf spring mounts (not hard, use DSE's and weld them in). He doesn't need the torque arm mount but he will have to deal with that. Finally, unless he's a racer he will not want a full spool, so chances are that's gotta go.

egad it has a spool? that is track only for sure. adding a posi just made using a the right rear an even cheaper option.

ahh yes definitely sounds a PITAA thanks guys although i did drive my car on the street with a spool granted i would drive with 255 tires on the back but when i had my 315 nittos it was a little hard to corner haha i took corners like a tractor trailer !

it's a good way to over stress studs and lose a wheel. not recommended!

that sounds like bad news, thanks guys i appreciate the info!
