License Plates

im gunna throw my insurance and plates on my T/A in a week or 2 but i just got some questions about plates i cant seem to find on the DMV site.

all the cars ive registered myself have has LE plates. no, they dont really do anything for you with cops, i just like them. So i plan on staying with them, but i kinda want to do a Custom plate. is it possible to get a custom LE plate ? i would imagine it would be a max of 4 characters.

also, how do custom plates work ? do they gimme some sort of "temp" tag or of something ? or do i have to call ahead? hows that work ?

for basic vanity plates, you used to have to mail in the application to trenton and wait(now it can be done online i see). I believe, in the meantime, if you want to drive/register the car, you would have to get regular plates or use ones you already have until you receive the new ones.

and you can get personalized LE plates... and you choose 5 characters, there is no "LE" on the left for personalized

You just need to apply for a NJMVC online account, and you get you username and password sent to you by regular mail.

Here is a screen shot of the online ordering tutorial...
LE plates are in the top right, and thats for personalized plates

edit: the proper link to register for a online MyMVC account is the following
https://emvc.state.nj.us/MVC_MYMVC/AVSStart.jsp
just click "User ID number request" and follow instructions

Once you have an account, go to this link and follow instructions after clicking "get started"

Why do you even want plates, none of your cars last more than a month or so before the break.

vanity plates can be tranfered from one vehicle to the next regardless of wieght class and type. so you can just pay the 4 bucks every time you buy and sell something :D
