EVAP system questions

97 LT1
im getting code p1441 for for air flow into evap when not requested, so i pulled the vacuum switch off, it was stuffed with charcoal and once cleared out, stuck in the open position (need a new one). then i pulled off the EVAP solenoid, same thing all jambed up with charcoal and stuck in the open position (need a new one!). i blew out all the lines of charcoal while at it.
question is, did one of those valves fail in the open position and allow the charcoal to get sucked into the system, or is there a problem with the charcoal canister??

for referance 96-97 cars are unique

My old 96 SS was full of charcoal/foam as well. They dry out and fall apart. The hoses get rock hard and crack and leak as well. I replaced most of the stuff in the back and most of the stuff on the engine.
