1968 camaro father son project
i can remember the day this car came home, i couldnt be older than 5 at the time and this thing was a wreck. but it was love at first sight and sparked my interest in cars and all things GM.
a bit about the cars history. it was originally a standard no frills v8 car with an auto trans. it now has z28 badges a zz4 crate 350, 700r4 trans, with a 12 bolt posi rear with 3.73 gears my dad did all the work himself, the sand blasting, body work, engine interior etc. at the time i was too young to lend a hand but ive always loved the car, and stood patiently and watched. the car was painted forest green metallic with pearl white stripes at skulllys autobody in hawthorne nj. pictures dont do the paint justice. in the sun it is phenomenal and the pearl in the white is insane. the car has been in its current configuration since i was 12 (im 19 now) and hasnt been driven more than 1 mile. :-x:facepalm:  my dad recently acquired a original 454 ls6 out a 70 chevelle from a friend at his work. the engine was in running condition but before my dad just dropped it in he took it apart. he found some scaring on on cylinder so it was out to the machine shop. it is now bored 60 over. i dont know much about technical specs so bear with me. i know domed pistons are going in and its going to be running 10.5/1 compression. as far as cam specs im not sure yet it hasnt arrived. we will be running the stock ls6 heads this will be the first time im going to get my hands inside in engine and actually wrench with my dad. i cant wait  now for pictures http://i147.photobucket.com/albums/r...k/IMG_3333.jpg http://i147.photobucket.com/albums/r...k/IMG_3336.jpg http://i147.photobucket.com/albums/r...k/IMG_3338.jpg http://i147.photobucket.com/albums/r...k/IMG_3339.jpg http://i147.photobucket.com/albums/r...k/IMG_3340.jpg http://i147.photobucket.com/albums/r...k/IMG_3345.jpg http://i147.photobucket.com/albums/r...k/IMG_3346.jpg http://i147.photobucket.com/albums/r...k/IMG_3350.jpg http://i147.photobucket.com/albums/r...k/IMG_3351.jpg http://i147.photobucket.com/albums/r...k/IMG_3353.jpg http://i147.photobucket.com/albums/r...k/IMG_3354.jpg http://i147.photobucket.com/albums/r...k/IMG_3357.jpg http://i147.photobucket.com/albums/r...k/IMG_3359.jpg http://i147.photobucket.com/albums/r...k/IMG_3361.jpg |
Nice project here. Can't wait for more.

Car looks great!
Just gotta say though... FWIW original GM LS-6 parts are worth enough to buy a crate ZZ572. Just sayin. |

Awesome project for you two! Beautiful car.
But for the record, I'd have to hop on the train. If two identical cars were for sale, one with a crate 572 and one with a stock head 454 poked to a 468?, I'd jump on the 572.. It's a cam away from seriously disgracing the 454. |
nice car! pull that baby out and give her a wash and take some pictures!

Nice!

havent posted pictures in a while. the heads have been glyptal-ed and the engine is fully assembled. tore the 350 out, cleaned up the bay and threw some paint on it. dropped the new beast in, just need big block springs and a few other odd bits and shes ready to drive. hopefully by the end of the summer a full hounds-tooth interior will be in:wink:
http://i147.photobucket.com/albums/r...k/IMG_4785.jpg http://i147.photobucket.com/albums/r...k/IMG_4794.jpg http://i147.photobucket.com/albums/r...k/IMG_4799.jpg http://i147.photobucket.com/albums/r...k/IMG_4800.jpg http://i147.photobucket.com/albums/r...taspxq4w5y.jpg http://i147.photobucket.com/albums/r...k/IMG_5221.jpg (red seat is stock, hound-stooth is deluxe) soon to come, deluxe 1969 camaro with headrest hound-stooth seats with upper and lower lumbar supports built in. obviously the lumbar supports isnt stock but neither is the engine we are going for a semi-original look. the comfort difference between stock and the deluxe is night and day. cant wait to get the whole interior. |
awesome build
best of luck |
Nice ride and best of luck with the project. I wish I could have caught ya sooner and talked you into buying the 68 Camaro 327 I have in my garage tired of moving it around lots of banged shins. If I remember correct the Red High back buckets was an option in 69 only. At least that is what I was told by someone trying to buy a black set I acquired a long time ago. I had the Black (deluxe) ones in your photo mine were blue in a 67 convertible I used to have. I miss 1st gen stuff :( if ya ever need a date coded correct 327 for a 68 Camaro shoot me a message :)

What is that stuff between the cylinder walls (and under the timing cover) on the underside of the block?

that sums it up. basically just improves oil flow and look cool |
Interesting, thanks for that. Doubt it's necessary but maybe one day someone will take that motor apart and ***** bricks like I would lol.
