Fitting a hatch in a Camaro

Hey guys. Looking for a little input. I'm gonna be helping Jersey Mike out by picking up a hatch for him. My question is, is if I can fit the hatch (at an angle) into the camaro. I dont really need my hatch to close. Rope can be used to keep it shut. Any tips or opinions are much appreciated...

Hatch in a hatch? Probably not.

How far do you have to go?

coolmanvette75 04-26-2012 03:10 PM

Doesnt have to fit perfect. Just has to fit in the space when the hatch is open. I can deal with it slightly sticking out and the hatch not closing. Will be tying my hatch shut as far it it will go...

I got a genius idea. Install it on your car & drive home hatchless after leaving North jersey

This could work pending a t/a hatch and camaro hatch are the same dimensions... :bertstare:

This was going to be my suggestion.

I was joking, but in theory, if he wanted to join the Convertible Club for an afternoon, it should work, no?
I believe TA and Camaro sail panels are the same, and it's just held on by the two hatch shocks, correct? I imagine the latch and such would be a bit different and whatnot, though.

I have no idea really. Maybe V knows? I know he did some hatch work a while back.

Hatch will bolt on up to your car no problem and close to at least 2-3" from fully shut.
the final edges and contours are the issue keeping it from closing.
you can bolt it on and strap it shut in order to drive with it.

As for the original question... no it will not fit IN the rear of your camaro.

coolmanvette75 04-26-2012 05:29 PM

Ok and for my next question, besides no 3rd brake light, how illegal is driving with no hatch...

LS1ow 04-26-2012 05:53 PM

Tie it to the roof.

i did it with my old GTA, never had an issue. lol

Jersey Mike 04-26-2012 06:59 PM

Is this really about to happen...

It won't fit...do the hatch swap if you want to transport it. I picked up my cowl hood from ups facility and thought it would fit inside a mountaineer...well, it didn't.

Why not just take out your passenger seat and back seats and lay it in that area? It will definitely fit.

dugeman 04-26-2012 08:58 PM

Hatches are approx. 59" L x 59" W x 15" w/o spoiler hope that helps .

Was what I was wanting to do but my whole concern is how I get it in there in the first place. Idk if it will fit if I lift my hatch and slide it in at an angle...
