Odd bidding war on eBay...

Last night I noticed that on several cars, two people were running up bids to unusual levels. Yet it is clearly not shill bidding by the sellers.

In particular I found at least 6 3rd gen firebirds that were affected.
The bidders in question have 0 and 1 feedback but aren't brand new users.
the cars are maybe worth 2-4k MAX yet in a matter of an hour a rough basic 84 trans am was bid up to 6,300 between those 2. The same 2 also drove up prices of a trans am from 2000 to 5k. Right now between both of them, they are high bidders on at least 30 cars with prices of around 4-6k each. Their bid histories show bids on like 30 cars in the past 30 days, with only about 1/4 being pontiacs, so there are others i cant even find.

Even auctions where it was like a $100 bid and there was a reserve, they bid over 5000 right away in order to meet the reserve.

Now, I just don't see it being possible that 2 users, no feedback, are buying up every 3rd gen on ebay all across the united states.

here's one auction in question...(the 1st one that made me notice)
a damaged, salvage car..

I did call up customer service and notified ebay about what I found and they were thankful users report what they see.

I also emailed a seller of the 84 Trans am, (in NJ ironically) and let him know to check his bidders and their bidding trends on other auctions since they will probably fail to pay and its some type of scam. He did cancel there bids and now it is back down to $610 from the previous 5,000.

Any one ever see anything like this before?

Maybe the seller is in on it to???

sweetbmxrider 10-16-2012 02:24 PM

Something is going on. Those sellers must be pumped

1320B4U 10-16-2012 02:24 PM

..or maybe its a generic script running to boast bids...but the one you posted is a parts car in no way shape or form a car worth 6k..in that case i doubt the seller is in on it, probably just deal w/a no sale deal at the end.

the cars range from being in NJ, to CA, to VA to IN.... so its not the sellers.

its might be a bot type program if anything or a paypal/money order scam where they'll try to get the car sent after paying with a bogus check

and adam, yea those sellers are probably thinking wow this car is worth a lot, and then when the bidder ends up not paying they'll still want 5+k for it.... bastards, lol.

edit: well, found another lol. I guess they like camaros too.

So very true. You can get an LT1 4th gen for less now since 3rd gens went up in value just for being old.

Is that a trickle down thing? Are 3rd gen the new 2nd gens?

Notice that all the cars are red.

Interesting point though...
