Dear Nova Guys
This is why you build a 1st gen Camaro and not a Nova.
http://www.barrett-jackson.com/appli...ln=772&aid=466 Just sold for $50,600 including buyer commission. Make that a 1st gen and it might double that. Yet the build costs the same. I'm not sure they covered build cost here :bertstare: |
Says the Admiral of the Battleship Big Bumper. :nick:
Meh. I think its not that great looking, really. Personal taste probably hurt it with all the orange. Interior is not that nice either to pull big $. Chassis and engine are cool though. Probably 75k as a Camaro. |

Photo #2 * Is the shut off simply just sticking through the rear panel? Isn't that how "regular" guys do in it, not professional high end shops? * Not for nuthin', but that exhaust looks awfully low, like way low. Photo #3 *Firewall isn't filled or smoothed. *Stock front subframe (really on a $50k build?) *I see mismatched A/N fittings, some red/blue some silver/black * I see garden variety hardware and hardware store variety rubber lined adel clamp holding the wire loom to the firewall. Why do I even see the wire loom? *I don't see any sort of crazy one-off craftsmanship under the hood. I do see a lot of bolt on parts. *Where's the A/C compressor? Photo #4 * I don't see any A/C vents either or controls? Isn't pro touring all about keeping the creature comforts? * Again, all bolt on parts. Nothing that didn't come out of a catalog. Roll bar padding with zip-ties? I bet the seat mounts just go down through the sheet metal floor and aren't tied into the cage structure at all? The cage does look to be tucked away pretty good though, at least in the dash area. * I bet the dome light doesn't work to well without the jamb switch installed * Factory two piece carpet? No custom interior work here, again straight out of a book * Which page of the Grant catalog did the wheel come from? *Is it me, or is there not even a tilt wheel in the thing? Wouldn't that make getting into and out of the car a bunch easier? Photo #5 * Don't the front/rear breakes look like factory pieces, maybe a C5 caliper, but still factory brakes? Guess a "real" brake kit wasn't in the budget? * Please tell me that's not a piece of Moroso aluminum fuel line running along the driver side frame rail? Please........ How come I don't see a trunk shot or undercarriage shots? I think if you really got up on this car it would be clear why it went for only $50k. I'd be pissed if that I paid $50k and that's all I got, really really pissed. I'd also be pretty proud if came out of normal guy's garage or my garage, but not a professional shop and not at that price tag. |
Kirkeys and no radio, too. Stock ps box?
And Fwiw it is a 72... |
Wheels are eh, needs chrome trim. I do like the stance but the color seems dull
|
More room in the Novas then the first gen Camaros, I felt so scrunched into my buddies 67 Camaro and Im not tall. Plus I paid $800 for mine and drove it home. That thing is ugly, im honestly surprised they got that much.

If the engine truly makes 1000hp then thats prob 15k right there, especially with that F1a.
Although, 1000 crank, manual, but only 850 wheel hp? |

Yes, I have the same problem, so I know! lol But forget this cars details, that is not the point. If all else is equal, same builder, quality, etc., the 1st gen will outdraw by a sizable margin the nova, and the 2nd gen. And the early 2nd gen will outdraw the later ones. I understand it but I'm still a little amazed by the spread sometimes. Is there any similar disparity between 62-67 novas and 68-74? |

Pecking order: 67 66 68/69/70, 62-65 71-72 73-74 4th gen Exactly like that from what I've seen. 67s are considered the pinnacle and pull 50-70k for nice ones with a 327 4spd. L79s help. 66s are just a hair behind. 68-70s are top dogs for the third gens because you could get a 396 and it was the top of the performance years. Plus there are little styling cues. Yeah, none of that matters when the cars are modified but for whatever reason it carries weight- kind of like a 72 Camaro vs. a 70. 71-72s are just a little behind but not by a real ton. 73-74 is where the big drop starts due to the new face and tail. Then the 4th genners are at the bottom. Regarding overall values, I think both the Novas and 2nd gens are picking up $ as they are easier to get into and modify at this point. Kind of how '57 Chevys were great- then the prices hit the sky so modifiers started spending money elsewhere. |

Anybody else notice that the speedo is reading 80 standing still? |
Here's a couple of examples:

BJ brings high $ bidders. That car on c/l or ebay would've fetched 35k or so. You bring any decent car there and expect 20% over general public prices. Nice car though, but nothing crazy crazy....and 50k for a car at that venue is on the lowerr end of the spectrum. I think the stance, ls powerplant, color and 'resto-mod' title helped out a lot.

Wait, so you build a fake L79, with an L6 100 series VIN no less, and pull almost $50k? :willy: |

Geez, the 1970 L78 brought $49K without the original block! This is why I don't pay attention to auctions. There is a lot of stuff going on that we will never know about. It's reports from the actual guys at the auction in person that carry the most value.
