Removing wisdom teeth
 

So today I took a real good hard look at my wisdom teeth coming in after experiencing pain.. my bottom left one is pushing against my 2nd molar and growing in diagonal.. and my other side is also growing in a little crooked, they both have peaked through the gums and are clearly visible for the most part. With that said I need these removed. I don't have dental insurance nor does my parents, so alternatives are cash. There's a local university dental school near me that I've gone to for past appointments, do you think they'll accept cash? And what kind of savings will I get from using a school rather than a full blown doctorate professional office?

Probably going to need the top done too, so basically all four removed.

Any helpful suggestions or guidance would be helpful!

Not much help on the financial part, but i had all four pulled at once a few years ago. No gas, just novicane. As long as youre not impacted its really not all that bad. A few wendy frosties and i was good the next day.

Oh and i had to be referred by my dentist to a oral surgeon to have it done. So uni ersity MAY not do it. Look into it.

I have a brother who had a similar issue, no dental and needed his out asap. He did lots of research and got in at a university in newark I believe, they did a fantastic job and it costed him next to nothing, they accepted multiple forms of payment. If you want I can talk to him tomorrow and find out more details.

the only thing that sucks worse than having your tooth removed in that situation is leaving it in

I'll try to talk to that university school this week to find out a quote, sounds refreshing that I may not lose all of my money for my Jeep and camaro build

thank the lord for dental insurance. i had all 4 out at once, got knocked out for the procedure. the only way to fly!

My medical insurance actually covered most of having mine removed, if you have medical you may want to check. I only have basic dental, but I guess they considered it a medical procedure. All four removed/ a few impacted.

I am not sure, but I have heard that if you go the oral surgeon route it is covered by medical insurance.

I went that route and went under general anesthesia. Was great, was eating normally that night.

What Dan said. If they are impacted, then it becomes a medical issue and its covered under that. Take care of your teeth. I have a down payment for a house invested in mine... :/

Ditto, my teeth are the most expensive thing I own. :facepalm:

i should mention i just went to the dentist and paid cash to have mine pulled. it was about 180 bucks if i remember right...novacaine, in and out in 20 minutes with a prescription to kill the swelling/pain

Just a footnote- it depends on how impacted your wisdom teeth are.

The two bottom teeth are half covered by gum still, the top ones are fully impacted but aren't bothering me

I went to an oral surgeon, mine were partially impacted, got the shot, and a prescription. I couldn't eat 100% normal for a couple days though.

No idea how it was paid since I was in high school.

Make sure you rinse the pockets with salt water often to prevent infections! You can also wear an ice band around your face to reduce swelling afterwards.

lol pulling a tooth is a lot simpler of a procedure than filling a cavity is. they just wedge a little prybar in there and boop...out it comes with a little muscle :D

When mine were bothering me and coming through the gum, I had no insurance at the job I was working at. I waited a few months for them to completely come in and then they just became a regular extraction that ran me a couple hundred bucks. This was almost 20 years ago, not sure how much it is now but they wanted over a grand to take them out.

I only had 3 grow in, only needed to get 2 removed though. Speaking of which I had a tooth pulled this past week and it was a terrible experience because the tooth was a monster!

Anyway, I have a nitrous bottle with medical grade in it... I also have access to a backhoe. I'll pull it for free.

I had mine taken out at 3 different times 1st was full impact almost into the jaw bone covered by medical oral surgeon I was out of work over a week I was banged up for sure after that. 2nd was full impact lot of pain a year later other side lower also covered by medical insurance only a few days I was out of commission. last visit both uppers not impacted just annoying other teeth causing headaches covered under dental insurance 3-4 days recovery to work again. my lower teeth were real bad before I went in very painful and no other option I waited because the 2nd tooth I had removed was next to a nerve it shifted over a year and had more room safer to remove. Oral surgeon warned I could lose feeling in my face if tht nerve was hit so I waited and gutted it out for about a year.

Not sure if any of this helps but its all I know this was almost 10 years ago so any Dr. dentist info I have is not very helpful after such a time.

I had them done one side at a time but only had to get 2 removed.

I almos didn't for three days. Went to an oral surgeon. Turns out they cracked my jaw.. I was ****ed up for almost a week
