Over the years of losing many tools, sockets,etc from various cars, loaning of tools and other things I need to start over with a new tool selection. I currently have craftsmans with a few harbor freight tools thrown it. My question is, should I get a new bigger tool selection via harbor freight since the socket wrenches and wratchet wrenches I have from them have proven themselves time and time again without breaking. Or should I go the snap on route since I have access to buying from a truck. As for things like electric impact guns and what not those will come from snap on as thats where I got my 1/2 gun from and never had a complaint about it. What do you guys think, snap on or harbor freight. Also keep in mind i can afford snap on but at a very slow rate of purchase.

Why not craftsman? Tool sale this week. It seems like a huge gap from harbor freight to snap on

I like them, but then again I've broken more craftsman products than harbor freight, so thats why I kinda didnt consider them.

I would get a few nice Snap On things. A ratchet with quality internals and little play comes to mind.

Take a look at Husky and Kobalt, too. Above HF and Craftsman in my opinion but not Snap-On or Matco. My stuff has held up to a lot of abuse.

Craftsman is nice because if you break something, you can just go into the store and get a warranty replacement. Harbor Freight doesnt do that, you have to send the broken part out and then theyll replace it... most of the times, shipping is more than the part is worth at HF. \

In the past two months, Ive gotten some KILLER deals at Sears... were talking 50% off almost everything I've wanted from there, the key is you just have to go there ever week to see whats on sale.

Craftsman has a killer deal on 309pc set right now but I really dislike the fact that most of the sockets in the pictures are 12 point. I'm more of a 6 point person.

i have that set, its pretty much half six point and half 12 point for everything important

You have the mg725 from snap on? That's good stuff right there. Can't beat a good ratchet from a good company. Snap on is very pricey though so its tough to justify buying everything from them. If you can get a couple good deals on important things, I'd go for it. The sockets etc I wouldn't mind getting from elsewhere. Warranty is the most important, no matter what **** will break.

Yea the 1/2 electric impact is worth the money. I love it. In fact I bought the 3/8 electric impact tonight too came with a free metric semi deep socket set as well.

The Bluepoint line from Snapon is also an alternative...

Do their prices differ much?

I also have that set. Sears was having a real good deal on it not too long ago. The ratchet wrenches it comes with are real nice. Only thing that I really dislike about that kit is the ratchets themselves. Quality of Craftsman ratchets has gone down the toilet. I got me some Snap On ratchets and they go real nice with that Craftsman set. Also for other "non set" tools look into the Craftsman Evolv series. I have their impact sockets, crescent wrenches, screw drivers, and pliers. Really nice quality pieces for not a lot of money...

I decided I'm gonna pick up that 309pc craftsman set. I'm just gonna get a harbor freight box that looks like the large snap on boxes and piece together a craftsman/snap on collection

Go to Sears before you go to HF. I was gonna do the same thing as you. Then I found a great deal on this box. 3 Piece roll around box. Lists for a little over $500 and picked it up for like $215. Nice piece for the money

My buddy just picked that deal up too :lol: Its nice stuff, I just wish it came in a hard case like the 1/4". Can't beat that lithiom ion though 8-)

Really? I know HF has a lifetime warranty on all hand tools, as I've broken quite a few pieces from them. But every time I needed to warranty something, I've simply walked into the store without a receipt, handed it to the clerk & grabbed a new one off the shelves. No headaches at all.

With that said, I have a mix of HF & Craftsman stuff, with a few misc pieces scattered here & there. While the warranty at HF is nice to have, it gets old breaking the same few tools over & over again. I've had a lot more luck with Craftsman stuff, and with this sale, it's just another reason to headed to Sears and browse the aisles.


Anyone know anything about Wright wrenches? I found one laying in the grass outside of one of our job-sites last week I think the teeth inside are damaged, as it only spins in one direction. I noticed Sears has them listed on their website, but not sold in store. It's a $100 ratchet, it looks like. At that price, there should be a similar warranty, right? I'd love to be able to salvage this thing...

Ive been wrenching with gearwrench brand hand tools for 3+ years now. 2 of them I was turning wrenches professionally 40 hours a week and was very surprised by how good the quality of the stuff was. They're stuff is definitely better than craftsman and is the same price.

Hell my gearwrench stuff is better than my Mac stuff I bought when I had my school discount. What a waste of money that Mac **** was.

nice buy. tall tool boxes get tiring, the top ends up being a wasteland. so much happier since I went to all lower ones

only before pic i can find. what a mess! but there is a bottom/mid. top. I found junk in that top area I forgot I had when I decided to unload it.

i still have to deal with the mid box on the bench. and I have not seen the entire top of the bench since day 2 of it's existence lol. too much crap
