4th gen rear axle seal replacement difficulty
I found that my RR axle seal is leaking when I was checking my brakes, is this a difficult fix or can it be done fairly easily in the driveway?
I'm doing new rear rotors and pads and might as well get this taken care at the same time if it's something I could do. Or if any one near robbinsville NJ has any experience and would like to offer a helping hand that would be great. |
Its not that hard, but you will just have to open the rear cover, draining the gear oil, then remove the C-clip holding the axle in. After that, you then slide the whole axle out. Now you could pop the seal out and install the new one, then put it all back together and refill the diff.

Thanks for the info, the local shop is wanting 145.00 to do it.

an hour, oil, seals, rtv. seems in the ballpark
easy to do. check the axle for grooves or scoring. also check for axle bearing play. make sure you wipe some oil on the new seal mating surface before you slide the axle back in. might want to do both sides while you are there.... |
