driveshaft differences

i have a 2002 ss six speed aluminum drive shaft. i replaced u joints not long ago and ended up bending the ears on one end. i thought it was ok but i developed a vibration. i stopped by my local salvage yard to get a price on a used one,i was told $75 but there was a difference between gear ratio's, i never heard of that before. is this true? they have the higher ratio drive shaft in stock i think mine is 3.42 which she said they would have to order and would be more money. i could see a difference between auto and stick along with maybe 6 and 8 cyl cars. any help would be appreciated.

I seem to remember 3 driveshafts:

1.) Steel LT1/2.73 rear'd LS1 cars
2.) Aluminum LS1 DS 3.23 and 3.42
3.) 6 cyl two piece

Maybe somebody else can clarify.

WBT covered it. Either of the one piece ones will work.

There are a couple people people selling used aluminum ones here, also. (Me being one of them)

Not really relevant, but 3rd gens also had aluminum ones but they were 2.5" diameter.

i did not beak it, i was hoping the axle bearing noise it was making was just a u-joint. and actually after i put the new one in with another new u joint. i discovered a pin had broken in half and wedged under the other bearings that i did not see, so my drive shaft may still be good.
