It is with heavy hearts that we report that eight Corvettes were affected by this incident. Those cars include:

•1993 ZR-1 Spyder on loan from General Motors
•2009 ZR1 “Blue Devil” on loan from General Motors

The other six vehicles were owned by the National Corvette Museum including:

•1962 Black Corvette
•1984 PPG Pace Car
•1992 White 1 Millionth Corvette
•1993 Ruby Red 40th Anniversary Corvette
•2001 Mallett Hammer Z06 Corvette
•2009 White 1.5 Millionth Corvette

<insert cold-hearted joke here>

holy crap

They need to get a large expandable boom crane and some expert riggers and pull what they can out.

I am going to be watching Ebay for a LS9 F/S in a couple days!! I wonder how this will effect the big Vette cruze in Aug to Bowling green? Suppose to be 10,000 Corvettes making the pilgramage. We have over 250 vettes from NJ signed up already to take the week long trip!

Wow. The importance of compaction!

8 cars... Isn't that roughly 1/4 of the museum's inventory? If so, that's a very substantial hit.

LTb1ow 02-12-2014 11:37 AM

Yawn, some mass produced cars got destroyed.

best comment I saw:

fill the hole with as many 75-95 models and then topcoat it with a little concrete. no worries

The zr1's where on loan from GM and like most manufacturers will be demolished without any salvageable parts.

That's crazy, I saw this earlier on the news

This sucks so much! I wonder what the value of the cars are. For some reason these things make me so paranoid. The world is so big yet whenever something like this happens and swallows cars or houses I get scared to leave my house or step on cracks.

Pretty insane. Below is the cctv feed showing the cars falling in

Under that area is a large system of caverns and tunnels.

From the underground railroad, right?

This reminds me of that guy in florida who fell in a sinkhole while he was sleeping. Was there ever a follow up with that story?

omarcamaro 02-14-2014 05:30 PM

gm is going to restore any of the cars that are still salvageable

well , he was just presumed dead. Body was never recovered, they said it was too dangerous to attempt it. Hole was about 30ft wide by 100ft deep.
