Bubbling issues on roof
Who knows a shop familiar with doing this Bubbling issue roof fix? I know I have to buy a new sail panel but I have a hard top so most of my roof has the problem. I need a shop familiar in doing the fix.

I can talk to the body shop manager and see if he'd be interested in taking on the job. Me and a body shop guy tackled the job. Wasn't really all that bad, just nerve racking(for me). You know you'll need an entirely new roof....right? |
for 800 you can buy a new fiberglass sail panel and hardtop roof as one. check ebay, I know the seller is one there.

you could also get a roof from an early 4th gen can and redo that one since apparently those didnt have the bubbling issues, but thats a lot more work and with a car as custom and detailed as yours, new would be the right way to go.
A few months back I sold the member MyFirstZ, a used ttop sail panel section which he stripped and prepped for his car. He made a post here somewhere about it. I have a 93 hardtop roof available( cut as needed) if you would wanna try that route. |
UGH! Is that what this is? Strange I'm reading this thread - I just noticed this happening to my sail panel last week. At first I thought I parked under a tree or something that was dropping sap. I realize I'm late to the party on this but can someone give me the quick version of what's causing it?

The glue used to stick on the sail panel/hardtop is migrating through the material the roof is made from and causing the paint to bubble. There is no permanent fix besides R&R of the roof.

I know its not a complete hardtop but that's just part of what it took.
The harder part was removing the donor that I got from V. But in the end it was worth it |
Geez I rather pay someone already familiar with how to do this!!! Mine only started the last couple years and I didnt know what it was till now. My car was mainly garaged kept and out of the sun. Going to shows all summer I guess started the process.

Yeah my car didn't get a garage for years but that's probably what did it for you. Talking to the techs anytime I went to GM for parts and from bodyshops I went to no one was familiar.

If you go the route of getting a complete roof from a donor, 93-97 cars don't have this issue.

This is happening to my hardtop car as well. I've thought about possibly covering the roof in black vinyl to cover the issue when it gets worse. Not sure how the vinyl would do in the sun however. My car isn't a show car so I'm not too concerned with it for now. Take plenty of pics if you end up going for it, I'm curious to see the process.

If you do wrap the roof you may have to prep and sand it down to a new smooth unpainted surface. That's what I was going to try.

Didn't see the replies until now. I'll talk to the body shop manager on Monday. If you were to do most of the labor yourself, getting a roof from a junkyard(94-97) is the way to go. But if you're looking to have a shop do it then a new roof from 6LE is the best option. Would probably be slightly cheaper in the long run and less of a headache for you.
