Plastic wrap for cars to protect paint
The firebird will having some work done soon and I've been looking for basic plastic wrap to protect the paint from normal rubbing/scratches etc. I've seen it in white, clearish blue, etc. I figured it would be good to have a roll on hand.
I know it will not protect against impacts or any real abuse but it will provide some level of protection. Anyone know who makes the stuff and where I can get it? |
I've used a product called Road Wrap for long trips. (TA Nationals and back) It is not a permanent solution like a clear bra, but is good for keeping the bugs off the front end and protecting against small chips. It is pretty similar to saran wrap, just much thicker. You roll it on, and remove it once you get to your destination.
If you are looking for something more permanent I'd consider something like this: http://solutions.3m.com/wps/portal/3...rd-Pro-Series/ |
Thanks for the info. I'm looking for a temporary solution that can be put on and peeled off within a couple days after it has been applied.

Home Depot sells the packaging style roll of plastic wrap - I bet you could wrap a car with it easily. It's 20" x 1000' on a roll with plastic end caps for handles, and it's only $20.

www.tracwrap.com/ (expensive)
http://www.amazon.com/Transport-Wrap...transport+wrap (slightly less than transportwrap website) http://www.mastershieldprotection.com/xport/ (3M product I think- no pricing info) http://www.empirecovers.com/buy-road-wrap.aspx (smaller roll length options) http://autolinetransport.com/vehicle...ion_cover.html |
How about the clear plastidip? Mask off, spay what you want protected, then peel when done. Pretty cheap too!

i just used clear plasti-dip on my quarter panels right behind the tire on my race car. i put five coats on. it worked really well. its a drag car so every time i take it out there is rubber all over the back. with the plasti-dip i just peeled it off when i was done. i plan on using it again. the stuff does spray like **** so practice first.
