Carfax FTW

In the market for a truck for the wifey, used because it will be her 1st full size truck... So I find a nice " 2 owner no accidents" Yukon Denali. Get the Vin and Carfax it. Turns out it was hit twice, stolen once, and had 5 owners. Called the guy out on it and his reply was I'm a church going family man and he had no idea. Just figured I would share and if you were ever thinking about not car faxing... Spend the $50 cause it's worth it.

^ love carfax but there are ways around having stuff come up on it... you need to read the person your buying from too.

I usually use VinAudit because it's cheaper but Carfax is defiantly better.

iv never understood why people care how many owners their car has had. my last camaro i was owner number 3 but my current camaro i'm owner number 11. had people try to talk me out of buying it at first due to how many owners it had but i bought it anyways. just didnt see the big deal.

I agree the owner # doesn't mean much to me. But when you put in your ad 2 owner and there really is 5 it throws up a red flag because your lying. If your lying about something that irrelevant... What else are you lying about. I honestly wouldn't even care if it was hit. If your up front and have a pic of what it looked like and it wasn't that bad, fender bender no biggie. But when you lie your hiding something.

depending on how long each owner kept it, especially short term ownership. it could signify the car has issues are gets dumped quick. also often maintenance is not kept up by short term owners.

And resale value, since people tend to prefer cars with less owners. So while it may not matter to you, it may matter to potential purchasers.

Which is about as silly as highway miles.

"Highway miles!", "One owner!", "ASE TECH OWNED", etc. etc. all a bunch of bologna. If I see the car, it's clean, no crazy noises, no visible hack jobs and such, i'll buy it.

I use carfax because I don't want an ex rental vehicle or fleet vehicle.

How did you become the "proud" owner of that dakota?

My parents bought a 2001 Dodge Caravan that was an Enterprise car. They bought it in September 2001 and my mom stopped driving it a year ago.(Replaced by a 2014 Cadillac ATS)
It now has 120k miles, and still runs/drives, she was just starting to get worried that something would happen mainly because of the rocker rusting away lol. But that is just because its a Mopar. I was very hesitant about letting them get it back then but everything checked out. Motor/trans has had zero issues, unlike a brand new '87 crown vic they owned where the trans fell apart at 10 years old or a brand new '91 Caravan which needed the trans rebuilt twice, and the door fell off. But I also think it matters what type of former rental car it is. A economy car, truck or sports car? Id still pass. But a minivan? eh, the people who rent then usually have a family so they may not be beat on as much. Or maybe we were just lucky.

Dealer trade in while I worked at James Toyota (now Fred Beans) in Flemington. They took it in for $300, and the deal was $500 over invoice... :bertstare:

Agreed. Another reason I don't like a tremendous amount of owners is because somewhere in that long list of owners somebody who doesn't belong working on cars has done something, somewhere to the vehicle.
