Rewiring Car
Yes, this is illogical.
Now that we have that out of the way. Been giving serious thought to ripping all the electrical out of my car and starting over from semi scratch. Goal would be to clean up the years of me "learning" as I go and working to "budgets" over the years. Also would remove the unused ABS/ASR/TCS/Airbag stuff left throughout the car. Getting a working radio system would be a huge perk as well. Basis of rewire would be to maintain factory mechanical interface, so turn signal stalk, horn, headlight switch etc but run new wires to a device like this. https://www.leashelectronics.com/Pro...ard-PS2015.htm Other than running new wire from each corner light and then figuring out wiring under the dash, it seems... easy? [cluster and engine interface harness wise are going to disappear from this half of the car equation wise] Thinking of tackling it this winter, so thoughts, opinions etc are welcome. |
Do it.

Do it, so I can do it as well and just copy what you do
|
Do it because I like to read about car things.

This is the same concept that I've been trying to plan on my 3rd gen.
From what I've seen so far, it is cheaper to buy a pre made harness than to buy enough different colored wire in bulk. The Leash is very nice, no arguing that, but there are cheaper fuse buses you can buy or make your own board with relays and fuses |
It’s a very “un-glamorous” project and probably something that will bring lots of frustration and cursing... but for peace of mind and simplifying future work on the car... I’d say it’s a great idea. I don’t expect it to be hassle free, so post up your pitfalls and aggravations so we can all learn too !!

Get this or don't do it at all
https://infinitybox.com/product/express-track-kit/ I like making harnesses, but if you're OCD then I wouldn't recommend it. Oh and Dave is correct, it is no glamorous at all, no one is going to know it even happened but you in the end. Also, American Autowire also has generic wiring kits that would work for you too |

Whats left OEM inside of car is basically lights, I wanna keep the wiring very simple. |
