Engine restart after extended storage tech?
My '02 Z-28 has been in extended storage for more than 3 years (it's a long and unpleasant story). I'm most concerned about the likelihood that the lifters may have bled out and are "dry". Wondering if there is any way to prime the lifters without dis assembling the valve train. I intend to drain and change all the fluids and put Marvel Mystery oil in the cylinders and manually rotate the engine before any attempt at startup. Would appreciate anyone's prior experience with this . Thanks!

I would do what is done in the video below. Semi recently did this with a good friends engine swap where the engine going in sat for a good bit of time. Worked well! Good luck.

Want to pre-lube with no real load? Pull the spark plugs out, pull fuse for fuel pump so you're not pumping gas. Make sure the battery is charged up, then hit the key to 'start' and let it spin. No plugs means no compression so there's no real load on the bearings and the oil flow after cranking a while should fill the lifters back up.

The worst thing that you’ll encounter is bad fuel. Everything else should be fine but you’re welcome to pull plugs, disable injectors, and crank it till you have oil pressure. Give the starter a rest if it takes more than 30 seconds. Just my opinion….

Yeah, I forgot about the old gas.
The starter should be fine, with no plugs there's no compression so the load is pretty light. |
