LT-1 Headers
Anyone recomend a certain brand? Im defenitly not installing them myself, but I was wondering if theirs any real gain over the SLP & MAC styled "Shorties" Or the Hooker long tubes?
The prices seem kinda pricey for headers & an Off-road Y-pipe. And I want to make sure every dollar counts. |
LT1's love to breath. i say go for the long tubes and a mufflex y-pipe.

Depends on what your goal is..if you want to keep it "street legal" and able to pass emissions, go with mac shorties..they are the best bang for the buck!

pacesetter lt's...you can find them as low as 270 new from a lt/ls vendor, usually less on a GP (theres one going on at cz28 now)

Long tubes are overrated (Hooker Super Comp, FLP, TPIS, Pacesetter). Their only advantage is that they give a "slight" advantage down low over a shorty mid.
Stay away from shorty headers (Hooker, JBA,). Not worth the gains when much more can be had from a emissions legal Mid length. Mid Length headers is where it's at. You get some of the best of both worlds. Arizona Speed and Marine are arguably the best headers out there for 99.9% of our applications. If you don't believe me ask Injuneer on CZ28.com. He has a buddy who only saw gains by moving to LT's once he got past the 850 HP mark I believe it was. MAC's are a great bang for the buck, RK Sport are almost a direct copy of ASM, SLP makes a good piece, Edlebrocks TES was being used on the fastest car at the GMHTP Bolt-On shootout. Plenty of options out there. My personal recommendation?? Spring for the ASM headers. If you're only going to stay a bolt on car, shoot for the Mac's as they have outstanding plug access, but may come up a bit lacking on a head/cam car due to the 1 5/8 primary ID. |
The car is most likely going to stay bolt on, I really dont plan on opening up the motor at all. (more likely to **** up) And they have to be ceramic coated.
But I just researched the companies FastBird Mentioned and listed them from most expensive to least. (From Factory) SLP - $854.95 Arizona Speed and Marine - $750.00 MAC Performance - $469.50 RKSport LT1 Coated Header - $450.00 Edelbrock - $439.88 |

I paid about 450 for my slp's, bought the ripoff installation kit with that too. I bought uncoated and sent them out for jethot 2100 coating.
All in all i wouldn't go with them again. LT1 manifolds are not all that bad for minor bolt ons, and the shortys don't seem to flow much more then them. I would go with mids if i did it again, but almost a necessity to have them coated. The LT1 is just too crammed and theres a heater hose on the passenger side that is almost touching the primaries. |
get long tubes or mids... just stay away from the shorties, u would probally be waisting your time putting them on for the 4rwhp increase
