EZ Pass Express Lanes
The Toll-Booth Racer prompted me to start this thread...
Don't mess with EZ-Pass Express lanes... I forgot my EZ Pass this summer for a couple weeks cause I had cleaned out my car and was too lazy to put it back in, so I got a ton of violations in the mail... I was at the AC Expressway Express EZ-Pass lane, and I said to myself, maybe if I go through REALLY fast they won't get a picture of my car. So I went through the express lane at about 120 mph, and this is the picture their system still managed to get (Note: This pic was taken with my camera phone, so the quality of the pic isn't completely accurate as to how it looks on paper): http://www.pwconsultingnj.com/images/ezpass.jpg Pretty nuts huh? ~Joe |
dayuum...u are a lazy bastard
|
 thats nuts, 120mph and basically no blur

that's why you go thru the coin lane, throw 2 pennies, honk twice and drive away :D

I try and avoid them as best I can. Now that they have taken out some of them heading south at the Asbury tolls, I love zipping through there....but I get nervious when doing 70 through the tolls...

If you did it during the day that would be no problem to get a picture like that, just use a high shutter speed and don't worry about the lighting. At night it would be a bit more tricky, not that I'm saying you should try that again.
|
IIRC, when they first developed the system, they thought about people like you that would blast through looking to beat the system. remember, people, EZ-pass was not developed by the state of NJ - it was developed by a third party company that has since sold these systems to several states. therefore, it doesn't work like things NJ builds. it actually works...
did you really think you were the first person to think that 120 mph would be fast enough to beat them? :shakes head in disbelief: |
So how big is the fine?
|
lol i went through them all the time on the bike....never more than 40 mph....and somehow....they never got a picture of my plate

You're lucky we arent reading about this in the obituaries.

THe express lanes aren't toll's right? It's like a two lane highway? I haven't been to em yet, but it seems like a cool idea

yeah....thats just really dumb
|
I only asked because i went through some part of the highway where part of the toll booth wasn't there, there was a overhead sign that said EZ_Pass but no booths, just a open two-lane highway with i believe a 60mph limit, don't remember exactly
http://www.state.nj.us/turnpike/express.htm there is a flash on the site to what it looks like, if there is no traffic i don't see why you couldn't go 120 through it? |
forone thing 120 is speedign by a lot and they have a camera, that takes very good pics form teh looks of it.
also, 120 is prolly much too fast for the machines to read the ezpass which is their only real reason to limit the speed you go through i woudl think. later tim |
Jim, no I didn't think I was the first person to come up with the idea, but I didn't think it would catch it at that speed... maybe at 80, or 90, or 100, but at 120 I am impressed (and in hindsight, yes I actually did know that EZ Pass was made by an outside contractor).
Tim, I tried it again at the same speed with the EZ Pass in place on the windshield, and it didn't work then, so I don't know what the speedcap is on the express system... would be good info. to know though. Talking Goat, I did this at 3 in the morning when there were no cars around. I wouldn't have done it if there was any traffic. Not that that time of day makes it any more safe, but it's not like I'm doing 120 mph over the Driscoll Bridge at 9 in the morning during rush hour, you know? TransAm4Life, the fine is only the cost of the toll and a $25 administrative fee, which is waived if you dispute the fine. One of the dispute reasons is that you are an actual EZ Pass customer, so you send the form in with your EZ Pass info, and they only charge your EZ Pass account the toll, and not the fine. ~Joe |
WTF?! I do 16 over the speed limit in emerson and they try and slap me with almost 250 in fines and 4 points! you do anywhere from 50 to 60 miles over the speed limit, and you get a 25 dollar fine that is drops if you show your an ez pass user! Its as if the moral of the story, according to motor vehicle law, is that the faster you drive, the less you have to pay. Well, maybe not exactly that, but THATS WHAT IT SEEMS LIKE!!!
:fireguns: :bang: :axe: :hammer: :soapbox: :banghead:  NJ MOTOR VEHICLE LAWS => :supergay: |
