Congrats! That's not too shabby for a fullsize pickup without a blower 8)
I think I can get you a few more tenths and like another mph with some more chip tuning. I want to get a wideband on it before I lean it out at WOT. I CAN however lean it out a bunch more in open loop so long as the catalytic converter is MIA. If it's there I can only remove a tad bit so as not to melt it. Also if you notice a decrease in gas milage because of that "decel backfire" let me know and I can give you another chip that'll be smooth as glass. As for Squirrel, he's got a chip FINALLY installed in his car. Should be interesting to see how it runs at the track if it ever makes it there  . Craig, I can help you get into the 13's. Since you don't have cats we can lean her out a bit. When you lean it out you can add the ever so slightest amount more of timing at WOT since leaner burns do burn slower. I've even got a slick fuel curve that richens everything up a bunch right before you shift... I'll explain the reasoning in person. Matt, sorry I couldn't go, I got my car running though :) . Friend came over and we reassembled my TBI, got it fired up and now I'm back in buiesness. |

Man, this is going to get pretty ****ing serious before too long. I hate to see my friends have it out like this but what the hell.

Don't worry Scott, Matt and Craig will handle themselves in their usual dignified manner.....wait, maybe you should be worried. I guess we'll have to wait till Wednesday to find out :) - Justin |

if etown sees it's famous headwind i am saying craig has a serious advantage over the barn door aero of the big block. later tim |
Heh - I think it will be close, but I'm saying that unless Craig has something new that I haven't heard about, Matt will take him by just a little (even though Craig will def. have the mph).

Little G, if you're reading this, remove the belt at the track. The power stearing and alternator will give you a tenth or more. Remember, even if those accesories aren't doing ANYTHING they're still being accelerated and the alternator is not a lightweight so it takes horsepower. It's the same idea as getting a light driveshaft, tires, and rotating assembly.
I hope to see that thing in the 13's before snow starts sticking. |
i don't think 13's are really a problem at this point. teh car has proven to be very capable of enough trap speed(96.5-97mph) and has proven to cut short tiems that are plenty good(1.88-1.91 normally). jsut have to get these two elements together to make it happen.
craig worked out a few things last week at etown to get teh shrot time sbetter and more consistant, but it was into the etown head wind, he was down like 2.5mph. that isn't enough to compensate for shift time with the stick we will see how it all shakes out tomorrow night. if that wind is there matt's traps speed will suffer more than craigs, but matt has shown to 60ft better, so ti si still anybody's game. later tim |
so the boys are going head to head at etown tomorow?

it'll survive for a couple runs....not sure if it will be able to crank after 4 or 5 runs though, unless you throw a charger on it in the pits
|
when teh car is rolling it really isn't too bad to turn power steering with teh pump disconnected. if you are stopped or have to cut it to get in or out fo a parking spot it sucks monkey nuts.
so jsut drive straight back to teh lanes and you will be fine :) later tim |
hrm i think ima try that tomorrow...dammit i need a 13
|
I know removing the belt will help get into the 13's, it's just a matter of how bad you want it. Removing belts reduces bearing friction from single shear load paths AND reduces rotating inertia. Also power steering pumps do something funny... they never stop moving fluid. Since at low vehicle speeds you're usually at low engine speeds, the pump is designed to give you enough power assist there which means at higher engine speeds it's pumping a TON of fluid. There is a pressure relief valve internal to the pump that bypasses the vain pump circuit at high rpm but that doesn't happen until really high rpms.
The car will start easier without a belt, not by much but it will. Not to mention we could push him in the lanes. I've had my alternator go bad on me and my cars run for a good 20 minutes or more on the street on just the battery. I think it's possible so long as the battery is in great shape (less than 2 drains and alternator charges). I know he's drained it once before but it should still help. |
