i'm in the market for a MIG too, i just dont knwo which brands are worth it. All i know is dotn get flux sheilded mig setup. right now i just borrow my old boss's, 110v gas shielded mig, it works great. on a side note, i possibly know of a miller TIG for sale, $1000, great deal.

Lowes = Lincoln Electric MigPack 135. i have one. it is a great toy. i will check tomorrow how much it is with my discount :)
you will wanna buy a real mask and gloves. it comes with a crappy mask you have to hold up to your face and no gloves. they are both cheap though, the flip down mask with teh 4x4 lense is only around $40 later tim |
I have a lincoln mig at home not sure of the model but i like it. Im not that great with it yet but im gettin there! Also my dad bought one of those masks that dim as soon as the arc comes and goes back to clear as soon as it stops, it makes life ALOT nicer when welding! Def. worth the extra money i dont it was all to expensive either!

i looked at the stuff at work. lincoln electric migpack 135 is $457, heavy welding gloves are $12, and a 4x4 lense flip down mask is $30. i can get teh stuff for you for 10% off, so figure somewhere around 475-480 with tax for everything. we sell the self darkenign helmets too, but they are sort of crappy ones and way over priced.

have to get an auto tinting shield...other wise its impossible to see anything...
|
i learned to weld without and auto tinting shield. you jsut have to learn to line up the work before you put the sheild down and get teh shield set so that you jsut have to flip your head a little for it to fall into place.
i am saving up for a nice auto tinting shield. i plan to buy one with a big 4x4 lense that is solar with a battery back up. :) another $300+ toy in teh garage :) hehe later tim |

i'm gonna have to check the budget, but i want one of those mig setups. might have to wait until spring when things will loosen up considerably.

they really are great set ups. only problem i have had is some cheap flux wire i bought(haven't spent teh cash on a bottle yet, even though the mig pack 135 comes with everything to hook it up). the wire i bought is pretty thick and sometimes doesn't feed that great.
as soon as i use up this spool of wire i will be getting gas and fine wire. hehe argon = weld aluminum :) later tim |
