V6 Headers
Does anybody know where I can find a place who makes long tube headers for 189 cui (3.1L) block? I think the 3.1 is the same as the 2.8 just bored out (30 over I think) so if the headers fit a 2.8, i'm pretty sure they will bolt up to my 3.1
Thanks for your help |
just outa curiosity, how come your putting a bunch of money into your 3.1? why not just save for a 350?
|
'cause they said it couldn't be done
|
yah but they are slow no matter how you cut it.

I don't think there are long tubes out there for the rwd 60degree v6's, but I know that pacesetter make's headers for them. - Justin |

a few well choosen bolt ons can make a world of diffrence in a cars performance. jsut look at little g's ride, started otu runnign 16's. a few good decisions later it is on the brink of 13's. later tim |
an 02 v6 camaro is a far better starting point then the lowly 3.1's offered in the early 90's and late 80's putting down probably close to 50 more hp off the showroom floor.

that just makes the gains of gearing and tunign even more evident at the end of the day.
besides, y9ou can't go wrong with good chassis and suspension prep. if at any point he does decide to do a V8 or different V6 the car will already be prepared for it. later tim |
you could always put a grand national engine in it
|
no, grand nat engine is a worse swap than a 350
nothing wrong with a 2.8 - i had one in the 15s at one point, then i killed it, it was a tiard motor need any help with anything 2.8/3.1/3.4 related let me know, i got a ton of ideas i can throw at you blacktoprecs is my AIM |

^too much to ask for? |
well if you're interested in building a v6 from the ground up. how about a 3.4l engine w/auto trans. im selling it out of my 94 firebird, including all accesories, harness, and ecm... 300 bucks for all that. just a thought...

if your stickin with a V6 i agree that a GN engine would be your best bet  if your lookin for someone to get the engine/tranny and install, just let me know and ill give ya a number

The Lumina (with the only mods being !jack, !spare, and hacked airbox) ran a 17.4 @ 78.xx. If your car is running well, I would expect around a 17.1 or 17.2 @ 80ish mph. - Justin |
yeah. i agree with justin, stock around 17.0 at best, trapping around 80. 90-95 mph traps should be around 15.2 give or take. my 95 caddy STS bone stock trapped 97mph, at 14.8

stock you most likely have 3.42's, 3.73's woudl be a little better, 4.10's would be good for ya, and 4.56's would get the job done :) hehe honestly, 4.10's are a good all around gear for most V6 cars. you will see a huge gain in performance without a negative effect on your gas mileage, slight if any effect on mileage at all. add a mild torque convertor when you rebuild teh tranny and you will really see a huge improvement. later tim |
