engine compression?

how would you figure out the compression on an engine..

a friend might pull the 350 out of his car..it got rebuilt 3k miles ago..im interested in it but i have no idea about the specs of any of it...

im going to pull the oil pan and check the crank casting number and check the heads..

i just want to know if it would be worth my time

You can figure it out by part numbers if you know what kind of pistons, heads, and block were used during the buildup. I don't remember the exact formula, but I'm sure that a quick :google: would be all that you need.

id take it because regardless of compression, you can mill heads, get smaller chamber heads or deck a block.
