Heater cores suck!!!

Im pretty sure my wifes heater core is clogged in our buick :( im not really happy about having to change that out and its not cheap to get someone to do it and of course it has to happen in the dead of winter blah. At least the gtp's is still working *knock on wood*

I had to backflush the heater core in my 93 Pace Car each year or I would barely get warm air. I think it was the piss poor design of the heater hoses that make all those nice sharp 90 degree bends trying to get from the engine to the heater core. I'd be out there on a 38 degree day flushing it out while the garden hose wasn't frozen.

i did the heater core in my gta a few weeks ago, took about an hour, not that bad. hardest part was hooking up the heater hose that were cut, lol

Before you do the swap make certain it's clogged. Easiest way to do this is to find the 2 hoses that lead to it. Undo both of them so that you've got some hose to work with. Use the garden hose and just flush water in both hoses.
I hate replacing heatercores. I'm on number 3 with this car.

turns out that wasnt even it....i dunno on a hunch i just checked her coolant and it was low...filled it and everything is good so i dunno her car has a slow leak.

probably something stupid like a hose or petcock is open enought for a drip

lol dont worry about it, i just used that 90* pipe piece to make the connection, it worked out fine. I have all the molded hoses to replace it, just too lazy to do it since most of the a/c pipes and smog hoses need to come out. Its just very annoying to have to remove the entire dash from the firewall then open up the heater box and still have to work the get that dahm heater core out, what was GM thinking.

camaro2you 01-15-2005 07:34 AM

i did mine when i had my entire dash out boy was that a nightmire doing that by myself

maybe the system wasnt burped enough and it sucked in the coolant when the stat opened. top it off and its good to go i bet.

thats a pretty good possibility
