Lutz says Solstice will start at $19,995

Just as he said it would when it was a concept.
Base model comes with 18 inch rims, 4 wheel disk and CD player. Roll down windows and no A/C I belive, but dont quote me on that. Release is this summer.

foff667 02-16-2005 07:24 PM

already sounds like a winner :)

NJSPEEDER 02-16-2005 07:48 PM

that is basically teh deal they were saying 2 years ago at the detroit auto show when they debuted it. one strangge thing though, i seem to remeber they were gonna base it at 21k. first time i can remeber gm ever lowering the intro price of a well received concept car from what they said initially.
should be a great car, i will wait for teh upgraded engine before i go shopping for one though. i already own a base ecotec motor and it ain't a powerhouse. i am sure it will do nicely in the solstice which should curb at 300-400lbs less than my alero :)

i wonder if you could put a LS1 in a solstice.....

BigAls87Z28 02-17-2005 02:03 AM

You could, and mess up the balance of the car, but you could. Would almost be a modern day Shelby?
IMO, Ill just wait for the turbo 2.4 making...well, enough.

89 Trans Am WS6 02-17-2005 07:34 AM

enough?!?!?!

Yeah should be a preety awesome car, that and the saturn counter-part.

ShitOnWheels 02-17-2005 08:08 AM

My current POS car is finally worth more than I owe. Â*I liked the look of the Solstice when I went to the Detroit Auto Show last yr...debating on whether to trade it in now...only thing is I'm not sure I wanna buy a car the first yr its out...hmm

Only thing that sucks is, if I do get a new car, I have to change my name...cause I wont be gettin another POS :)

N/A Ecotech in the Solstice will be rated at 177 hp and 166 lb/ft

With the turbo, they are placing it right around 240hp.

And Al, if they went for the 'vette idea and used a rear-mounted transaxle with an LS1, I bet the weight wouldn't be thrown off too bad Â*

my woman is cosidering getting a new car, so I may buy her Miata...

can anyone else smell an engine swap?

either way I think the Solstice and it's Saturn counterpart are gonna do very well in the market they're going after, even if it's not us die-hards.

How many does GM project that they will sell/make in this first year?

I think in its best case scenario that the buyers will be a wide but shallow pool; those that want one will buy it up fast but after those people are satiated, the sales will trickle. Like the 1st year sales of the 300C but on a smaller scale.....maybe closer to like how the '04 GTOs faired.

Of course I hope the car does better than that though. It's a cool car that it's tough to go wrong with, and after all it deserves to do well for what it is.

I'm pretty confidant that it will sell better than the GTO did. It looks like even the base model will be loads of fun to drive, and the cost is almost half of the GTO. Only thing that will hurt it is the 2 seater status.

we will see about sales being better than teh GTO. teh GTO got killed by dealership mark ups. every place that i visited or called had them for 3-7k over sticker price. if they do teh same for teh solsitce it doesn't stand a chance.

Right.....well, if they don't mark them up too bad, then they should sell well.

Solstice will have a production of 20k. Im sure they should sell fine for some time if they keep there numbers low, and the best part is that GM will make a profit off them.

Tru2Chevy 02-18-2005 09:50 AM

From Pontiac's site:

.90 G's on skidpad, coil-over Bilsteins shocks are standard :D

It ought to be a fun drive...
