gota quiet down the exhaust a bit

hey guys im moving and i got get the car to idol quiter and at low rpm's. right now i have flowmaters with gutted cat. what should i do.

does anyone know nething about the borla tips, do they quiet it at all?

thanks
justin

Mike 02-19-2005 02:13 PM

i doubt the tips will help....
installing a non gutted cat should help.

if you were a m6 car you could do what i do....idle around my neighborhood in 4th.

deadtrend1 02-19-2005 03:43 PM

yea, a funtional cat will quiet the car down more then the muffler will most likely.

foff667 02-19-2005 04:38 PM

or you could try a bullet in place of the cat

JerzLT1 02-19-2005 05:15 PM

non gutted cat = less flow = less HP.... i dont get it  why cant it be as loud where your moving?

Tru2Chevy 02-19-2005 05:26 PM

Yea, I say get a bullet muffler for $30 from jegs and just weld the cat sheilds on it.

im movin to a gated community with a like a golf course and stuff and my parents dont want people complain.... go figure

Ian 02-20-2005 12:15 AM

**** 'em

JerzLT1 02-20-2005 10:39 AM

so they care more about other people then your car bein faster...... thats not bein very supportive of your hobby ya know

Tru2Chevy 02-20-2005 06:21 PM

Well, the bullet muffler in place of the gutted cat is still a good idea, but if your car is legal, then I say forget about it. Neighbors have no right to complain as long as it's legal and you aren't being a dick within the community.

what about a hi flow cat, wont that still get the flow and horse power you want yet still still quite the exhaust a bit??

NJSPEEDER 02-20-2005 07:55 PM

hi flow cats are a total myth. teh difference in flow from a standard cat to any of teh popular high priced "high flow" models in usually only about 5%.
i would agree with the bullet muffler idea tru2chevy presented. it will lower teh volume and note of your exhaust and not sacrifice flow.

ehh i didnt know, im more a fan of 2 factory cat flangs with a 3 inch pipe in ther middle.=]

Well I'm going to disagree with everyone! I don't think adding a cat. is going to quite down a flowmaster. I think replacing the flowmaster with something like a hooker areochamber or simular is the only way.

I have a 4" Mufflex with a spintec. I've run it with shortie headers with a cat, gutted cat, and now with longtubes with duel highflow cats. The change in sound is minimal.

A loud exhaust/muffler is going to stay loud, a cat isn't going to make a big enough change.

Why the hell would you spend $170 on a cat? Catco 3" on Ebay for $45.00 (5 year / 50k mile warranty too).

I had my cat on my doorstep in 3 days....and there is no reason to be worried. The places that sell the new cats are mostly resellers....not private people.

Besides magnaflow, IMCo and flowmaster exhausts we( exhaust guys) also sell converters. Both catco and magnaflow in universal and direct fit. A uni for the guy's heres at NJFOB runs about $50 . Email streetofdreams2004@yahoo.com. Plus we are right in Bergan county so no ebay hassles or trying to figure out if it will fit.

BlueFBird 02-21-2005 11:51 PM

Not to be mean, but we told you to go with a bullet muffler or a different cat-back.
