Y Hello Thar Check Engine Light

Anytime I drive above 75 for a period of 5 or so minutes, the check engine light will come on until I turn off the car and back on. Normally this wouldnt bother me, but at night its this blaring orange light. Any ideas?

have you checked to see if the code is stored?

maroman88 03-10-2005 10:29 AM

happens to me too, but only if you stay at a steady higher RPM on the highway, if im driving like an idiot and the rpm's are jumpin all over it wont happen.

http://www.thirdgen.org/newdesign/faq/thirdgen.shtml at the bottom...check to see if you have any stored codes...figure out which ones and diagnose from there.

Ok, well I did it and I got Error Code 32 :
32. Fault in barometric pressure sensor circuit OR
Fault in exhaust gas recirculation valve diagnostic switch OR
Fault in electronic vacuum regulator valve

Ideas?

maybe your EGR valve is carboned up....

Batman 03-12-2005 06:36 AM

I'd guess it is the EGR valve, pull it and clean it and see if it goes away. You may need a new one.

:stupid:
the egr only opens up in cruise situations where there is steady vacuum. so rolling steady on the highway is when the ecm would notice it was not acting right.

Yep happened in my car. I had to pay $100 for a new EGR valve. For some reason, car ran alot better afterwards.

Ah, the joy of having no EGR...

$72 later, new EGR installed. Old one was all carboned up. So far no lights.
