Sounds miserable. For those top bolts I always committed to pulling the intake right from the start and laying on top of the valley. You can pretty much reach everything from there with a box wrench....

you should at least run a line from the driver valve cover to tee into the line that goes to the TB for fresh air. Valve covers are a high point for evaporation and then condense in the stock baffles...

Sounds like idle rpm is a bit high for the cam to compensate for low timing or poor idle controls pulling timing. Not sure if you're having the same...
